We booked to go to Cala n Porter Villas fairly near to the departure date and didn't really know what to expect as we found very few reviews on-line. We have been to Menorca twice before (with Style holidays) and found their accommodation excellent.
Finding the villas was a bit stressful as they are labelled Rotger Villas - but only on the adjacent block - and our villa was number 13 - but the sign outside said 33! We had to ring the rep to confirm we were at the right place.
The Villa was locked and the maid had to be contacted to bring us a key to get in. This meant she had no key for herself. The rep had no key and the owners were, apparently, away on holiday. We had to hide the key for the maid to get in to clean (which she did a day later than promised).
The water heater broke on the first day and tripped out all of the electrics in the villa. As we had the only key we had to stay in to let the electrician in. He was arriving at 3.00 but, of course, didn't arrive until nearly 3 hours after that. He couldn't fix it and had to come back the following day. He said he would be there at 8.00 in the morning and, of course, this time he was early!
He took the door off the bathroom to give room to change the unit, changed it and then left. I put the door back on as I couldn't face having to wait in again for him to return.
The pool was fairly clean but not sparkling. It was cleaned once during the week but not very thouroughly.
The rooms were OK but a bit tired and in need of a coat of paint.
Location was pretty good with an easy walk to the steps leading to the beach and half a dozen fairly good bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk.
Overall the villa was good value (as Thomson were doing a big discount at the time) but I wouldn't pay the brochure price. The rep was OK but seemed unable to get the agent to sort out any real problems.
We had lots of things break/fall down/stop working while we were there but the lack of a key made it easier just to ignore them for the duration rather than have to wait in for someone to arrive to mend them.
Overall it was OK. Good value for money but not a patch on our previous Style Holidays to Menorca.

The villa we were allocated was not detailed on the edition of the brochure from which we made our booking. It was in a different area of the resort, in a villa complex called Son Rotger. The villa slept 6 people but we paid for a villa sleeping 7 as when we booked we were told all the 6 person villas were full. In subsequent editions of the brochure the Son Rogter villas are mentioned and the number of villas available had increased from 4 to 8.
The pool was dirty when we arrived and due to an inadequate filtering system, had to be cleaned 3 times during our 14 day stay and it still wasnt great. The grounds were full of weeds a foot high and the garden gate was missing. A tree next to the pool dropped small fruits similar to brambles. These fruits had stained the pool area and attracted an army of ants. We had to hose down the pool area every day to make it usable. Inside the villa was very clean but the drains in the 2 bathrooms STANK. The mains water to the villa pulsed every 5 seconds causing the shower to go cold/hot. The kitchen area had no storage cupboards for food and minimal food preparation area. Outside a barbecue chimney was provided with a flat surface for the coals. Unfortunately we were unable to use the bbq as there was no grill to place food on. We had planned to eat at the villa most of time but abandoned this idea after a frustrating 2 days of trying to use facilities.
The satellite TV mentioned in the brocure is great if you speak German! We were unable to get any English speaking channels. The rep refuted that satellite TV was meant to be in the villas until she was shown the brochure.
The Direct Holidays rep did try to help with our complaints but she mysteriously disappeared after the first week. Her replacement mentioned that she had gone home as she could not cope with the lack of action from the Villa complex management. He also said that his manager was aware of the problems at not just our villa, but others in the complex, and that Direct Holidays were considering dropping them for next season.
We will definately not be returning to these villas.
