I would recommend without hesitation the Occidental Grande at Jandia.

Our first impression as we entered the lobby was wow! Our room was spacious, clean and well presented. The view from our room was just perfect, we had asked for a sea view.

The staff could not have been better, nothing was any trouble whatsoever, they took so much pride in their work and in making us feel welcome. The staff made sure that we did not want for anything at all.

All areas of the complex were well kept and very pleasant. The pictures on the internet are justified. The hotel does have a steep access to the beach but is easily access using the stairs by the Royal Club.

The dining room was very clean and the variety of food was amazing (we had half a lobster on our first night). You could go back for more as many times as you liked without being made to feel awkward.

Banana Mamma cocktails in Lobby are great. The drinks were very good - no problem with brands at all. We stayed for a week and went just to chill out and that is what we did as we did not need to leave the hotel all week except for walks on the beach.

Barcelo Jandia Playa -The name of the hotel and the publicity photo gives the impression it sits on the lovely looking stretch of beach that's used for the picturesque photos of Jandia Playa, more accurately it's on the outskirts of a little town called Morro Jable (25 min walk, 3 euro taxi ride away).

Nice beaches still but not as breathtaking as you'd expect, accessed by a tunnel underneath the dual-carriageway that separates the hotel and beach.

The hotel being newly built this year was modern with dark wood, pastel shades and clean, a much bigger complex than the photos suggest.

Four great pools in total with water features and sunken bar.

The staff on reception were polite, professional and spoke good English, the waiting staff in the restaurant were hard working and happy to help, but the bar staff let the side down by giving the impression they were running a resort for the Spanish first and others second.

There was a wide selection of food changing every night freshly cooked, better than the average tourist hotel but still not restaurant standard.

If you're not All Inclusive be warned the drinks and food are expensive with the only alternatives being in the town.

There is a shell built for a small-ish shopping complex at the foot of the hotel near the road that's still being completed, it didn't cause any problems while we were there.

Overall a luxury feel built down to a price.

My partner and I stayed last October, 2004. It was our first 'all inclusive' holiday together. I have stayed at all inclusive resorts previously and had not been over impressed, to tell the truth. However, we found the food at the Grand Occidental to be excellent. Even in the main buffet restaurant there was a fantastic choice of tasty, freshly prepared food. We also enjoyed the Chinese restaurant and went there twice during our one week stay.

We were not aware of any restrictions and no-one asked us if we had already visited the restaurants when we rebooked them. The Italian was okay, as was the mexican. The Reses restaurant was closed for some reason, throughout our stay. There was a good range of drinks, and my partner particular enjoyed the draught beers which were available throughout the afternoon.

The hotel was extremely clean and our room was large and airy.

We found the staff were extremely helpful and friendly especially in the bar by the theatre, which is where we went every evening. The staff would bring you fresh drinks without being asked whenever they noticed yours was getting low. We did not take part in much of the entertainment as we preferred to relax however we did try the nightclub a couple of nights, very European!!!

Most of the guests were German but this was not a problem. It is a very relaxed hotel and everyone just does their own thing. The nudists do go onto the beach but we did not notice any wondering around the main parts of the hotel complex.

We enjoyed this hotel so much we are planning to go back this October.

My husband and myself booked at the Occidental Grand in the Royal Club for two weeks at the beginning of September.

After a coach transfer of about one and half-hours we arrived at 2.45pm at the main reception and were taken within 5 minutes by the bellboy on the golf cart to the Royal Club reception.

We were greeted by the receptionist, with cold face towels to cool ourselves down, whilst the bellboy took are cases to our room. The receptionist then took us to the restaurant as lunch would be finishing at 3.30pm.

After lunch we went back to reception and were given gold club cards, this is instead of having to wear wristbands, and then the receptionist took us to our room.

The room was very nice, large and clean with twin beds, the sheets on the beds are crisp white cotton and changed every day, large television, dvd player, cd, mini hi fi, two white fluffy bathrobes, air conditioning and ceiling fan, large wardrobes, mini bar which was filled every day with soft drinks bottled beer and water, a safe which was free, a round table and four chairs, and a balcony with table and two chairs which had a sea view.

The bathroom was large with a hydro bath tub, bidet, toilet, two showers one over the bath and one walk in shower cubicle large enough for two, sink and hair drier.

The towels were white and plentiful and changed twice daily. When the evening staff changed the towels they also turned back your sheets and the cover was shaped into a fan, they left the room with dim lights on and soft music playing on the TV. Also there were blue pool towels in the bedroom, which could be changed as often as you like at the reception. In the reception there was a computer with free access to the Internet.

The restaurants breakfast and lunch were in the private restaurant for the gold club resident only, but if you wanted a change you could use any of the main hotel restaurants also but we preferred to use the Royal Club as it was quieter and better quality food, don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with the food in the main buffets it was just a lot larger and nosier.

For the evening meals you went to the buffet or booked to go to the choice of five different restaurants. The Exclusive Tindaya restaurant in the Royal Club was very worth while visiting but you could only use it once a week. The other restaurants in order of how we liked them was Las Reses meat restaurant which did a very good mixed grill, La Hacienda Mexican, D

We stayed at this hotel with our 12 month old daughter from 29th September for 1 week, all inclusive with Thomas Cook.

This hotel is located on the south of the island which means an hour and a half transfer from the airport - however, it allows you to have a good look at the scenery and coast on the way! The beaches get better as you head towards the south coast and the location is much quieter and isolated.

This hotel was excellent and much better than we expected - we'd read some mixed reviews and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived.

All staff were very warm and friendly and made an effort to say hello to us. We received a very friendly welcome when we arrived at reception and were impressed with the size of this resort. There were lots of bars offering drinks and snacks throughout the day so that you could eat (or continue to eat) at any time.

The food in the buffet restaurant was fine in the evening, OK for lunch, but disappointing for breakfast. The breakfast lacked variety and had some strange offerings - chips, spicy sausage, fatty bacon, bread, croissants, sprouts, salad, fruit, cheese .......and it never changed.

The a la carte restaurants were much better and offered better quality food, variety and ambience (candle lit tables, dimmed lighting etc). The best ones were Les Reses (grill that cooked a very good steak and mixed grill)and Hacienda - Mexican. The Oriental (chinese) was good. The Italian was also nice but was buffet style and lacked the atmosphere that the other restaurants had. Apparently you can only eat at these once a week but I haven't read this information - only heard from what other people have said.

I expect lots of guests dine at these restaurants more frequently (perhaps because they don't know of the restrictions) and the paper system of administration (with more than 700 hotel rooms to organise)would mean it's hard to track these down - I'd be interested to know if anyone has managed to dine more than once a week.

We requested a sea view but didn't actually pay any extra so didn't really expect to get one - when we arrived we were really pleased because we had a beautiful view over the pool and sea - we couldn't have asked for a better room. The accommodation is large and spacious with free mini bar, free safe, TV, covered balcony, air con, ceiling fan, hair dryer, bath, shower, toiletries etc. It was spotlessly clean throughout our stay.

This hotel also has a coffee shop, ice cream parlour (serving a wide variety of flavoured ice creams and slushes) and a "traditional" bar (serving Kilkenny, Carlsberg, Guiness, plus German beers). This is also part of the all inclusive package but doesn't seem to get mentioned in any reviews.

The hotel has excellent facilities for children and infants including large shallow pools for paddling and walking. Highchairs and cots and kids entertainment.

Adult entertainment was quite good - we didn't see everything but there's plenty of variety. There's a theatre where you can watch movies and nightly entertainment, and an arcade for playing games.

The beach is located down steps and one of the pathways is a little dangerous. The path next to the Royal Club is easier but still a struggle with a pushchair!

The hotel mainly caters for German, English and Spanish and we were occassionally mistaken as being German by hotel staff - the majority of guests seemed to be German during our stay.

There were a few naked people strutting across the beach and hidden in the sand dunes but I didn't think it was a problem.

This hotel is definately worth a visit as I think most people would be impressed by the size of the hotel and the range of facilities on offer. We've stayed at some very good 4* plus hotels in the Caribbean and think that the Occidental in Fuerteventura is better. We will visit here again very soon and our daughter loved every minute of her first holiday!

Not have lay your own table like i did one day,Hotel location ok very steep hill up to hotel or back way up lots of steps . Swimming pools excellent sunbeds take your pick loads and loads of them,

We really enjoyed our visit to this hotel. We hadn't realised that it had a nudist section when we booked it so were a little worried about what we would see but are happy to report that the only nudity we saw was on the beach, not in the hotel.

We had a lovely room with a sea and pool view. The bar by the theatre was our favourite and the staff were happy to replenish our drinks without being asked.

The animation team were excellent and we came away with certificates for shooting and archery but no one encouraged you to join in if you wished to laze. The lunches by the free-form pool were excellent too.

I heartily recommend this hotel.
