This is a lovely Bed and Breakfast set in a quaint little quiet street. It is one of the oldest in Ilfracombe and has it's own restaurant attached next door.
All rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated with excellent views of the sea.
The place itself is just a short walk from the harbour down the hill. On the same street, there are a number of decent pubs/bars and eating places.
Run by Carol and Paul, they could not be more helpful if they tried. We were going there to celebrate a 50th birthday and the staff were very helpful in arranging surprise deliveries to the room.
Our room had flat screen TV with freeview, DVD, iron, ironing board and fridge as well as the usual kettle, tea, coffee and biscuits.
Breakfast is served between 8am and 9am and you can have a choice from full English and any combination inbetween to Kippers, cereals, toasts and preserves and also a fresh fruite platter with greek yoghurt and honey which are all made fresh to order by Paul. Carol does the waitress service herself and there is an endless supply of tea, coffee and various fruit juices. Breakfast is sometimes put back from 9am til 10am on a Sunday though, but they do advise you of that.
There is no reception as such, but once you are in, Paul carries your cases to your room and you are supplied with 2 keys, one for the front door and one for your room. Payment is not taken until you check out and both Paul and Carol being very easy going about this (I was trying to pay as soon as I got there!)
This place is on a little bit of a hill so I am guessing those with mobility difficulties may struggle a little. Another downside is there is no parking facilities but this is a very minor point. There is a council owned car park at the bottom of the street and permits are available from the Tourist board for £26.10 per week. They have a 4 day pass too. Even the street outside is spotless, all the property owners work together to keep the walls nicely whitewashed, flowers tidy, street swept and rubbish free etc. The council even provides the paint (they were whitewashing the wall again opposite us and the pub down the road whitewashed everywhere the day before). Nice to see pride in your street.
The restaurant/bistro next door is called The Olive Tree and is all linked in with the Bed and Breakfast. The meals are superb and all guests get a 15% discount. The menu is diverse and the prices very reasonable. Loved the decoration too.
We had a lovely time and will definitely be recommending this place for anyone wanting to visit Ilfracombe. We will definitely be returning.
