A little bit disappointed this time round
3 years ago
My family and I have stayed here many times and have always been a big fan of Dunas Suites and Villas. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case this time round. It was by no means terrible. The location is great and as always there’s so much to do in the resort. Holiday world is close by and brilliant for families. I also can’t fault the entertainment and staff. The big differences this time round came down to cleanliness not so much of the rooms but the dining area (inside) and the food. The food was poor in comparison to previous visits. Very repetitive, a lot more basic and not as fresh as other experiences. I remember there would always be fresh pizzas cooked in the pizza oven but that wasn’t used this time round. Packet pizzas were used and were often undercooked. The fresh seafood was no longer an option and the different meat selections were basic. The puddings were very repetitive and no where near as nice. The kids missed having the different tubs of ice cream flavours which you could scoop up yourself and sprinkles which instead were replaced by small tubs of flavourless ice cream. A lot of this is no doubt down to hard times because of covid and lack of staff.

Hotel tip: If you don’t mind the noise from the main bar area in the evenings then the rooms close to reception/around the big main pool are ideal as their close to everything, pool, daytime entertainment, restaurant, reception, bar etc Rooms further back behind the gym are better if you have smaller children and prefer not to be disturbed by the evening noise. The pools further back are quieter and the middle pool has a nice splash play area for younger children. If you have rooms on the lower level you do hear footsteps of people walking around above you.

A quick review to cover the basics for anyone who is thinking of booking a holiday here. We were self catering and had booked a two bedroom bungalow. Upon arrival we were told we could only have two one bedroom bungalows which was not ideal as we were travelling with our two children (both teenagers) but they were next door to each other. A problem with one of the bungalow's keys was sorted immediately despite it being 9.30 at night. Staff seemed friendly and the grounds were very well kept. The kitchen is only two hobs, a coffee maker, fridge and microwave with annoyingly no work surface so cooking or even just making a sandwich could prove a bit tricky! Entertainment was terrible in our view (we have been going to the Canaries for many years and know what "standard" to expect!) which was disappointing as we stayed over the New Year period. The complex is about 15 mins walk from the resort, 10 mins walk to camel rides, 10 mins walk to a small shopping centre and 15 mins walk to Holiday World (a small fun park with bowling. There is a supermarket at the back of the complex but as is quite often the case the prices were much higher than supermarkets in the resort so we tended to try and only buy really heavy items such as water there. We would return but noted that most of the guests were German or Spanish so do not know how easy it would be to book another holiday there.

The hotel consists of many bungalows. It is a huge complex which gives you access to a number of bars and 6 swimming pools. The area is kept very clean and pretty and it was always quiet at night. The complex is heavily populated by Germans and Spanish but there were a few english.

This hotel consists of mainly bungalows, grouped around swimming pools.

There are 3-4 pools on the the grounds.

The dining room was large and light. the food was phenomenal!!(pork, salmon, steak, caviar chips too) it was buffet style, but meat and fish would be cooked as you chose, very quickly and to your liking. There was a huge salad, dessert, bread and hot plate selection.

There was a mini disco for children every night, with family entertainment after( magic, flamenco, singing)pool activities through the day.

Bungalows were fab, clean with small patio.

Staff very helpful. Small park for small children.
