I guess at the Gran Amadores you get what you pay for, we had booked our holiday last minute and got quite a cheap deal.

We found the apartments very basic and needed a good refurb, the walls badly needed painted, the furniture in our apartment had graffiti with peoples names and in the height of summer the apartments are sweat boxes which is not too nice as the mattresses on the beds and sofa bed are sponge which constantly feel damp due your own and the previous occupants sweat, we tried to hire a fan but this was a total waste of time as both power points in the room had a pin from adaptors stuck in them making them unusuable.

Dont get me wrong they are basic but every effort is made to keep the complex clean as the cleaners would come just about every day, although you only get clean towels twice a week and your bed linen changed once a week which isnt too good in the summer.

In the apratment you are supplied with a toaster, microwave, a 2 ringed hob and a fridge/freezer, all the basics you need really but if you wish further kitchen equipment ie kettle, toatie maker these are available for rent from reception. With the fridge/freezer we were unsure that when you removed the power card which is with your apartment key whether this would also cause power to be cut of from it, we didnt risk this so we just removed the power card from the key and kept it in constantly.

There is also a tv in the apartment which is paid locally which is about 1euro for 1hour and there is about 4 channels available, but parents be warned the tv is siutated in the sitting area where the children would sleep on the sofa bed and there is a porn channel!

The swimming pool area is reasonably clean we only had problems with the actual swimming pool itself with loose tiles and drains. The sun loungers are very uncomfortable as they only stay in the one position and the majority of the people when we were there had bought lilos to put on top of them.

At reception there is a sign specifically stating not to reserve sun loungers as any towels or belongings will be removed, this does not happen, people would permanently leave ther lilos on the loungers for their full holiday always having the same spot. But what those people who reserved the loungers with their towels dont know is that every morning a stray cat visited the complex and rolled around on their towel on the loungers.

The bar area at the complex is called the scotch corner probably due to everyone at the complex being scottish, the food and prices are reasonable. There is nightly entertainment for 4 nights out of the week which consists of a karaoke, bingo etc, its not the best but it is alright if you dont want to go into puerto rico or up to the europa centre.

The complex next door provides night entertainment which consist of various shows and allows non residents to watch.

We were a bit concerned about going to Amadores after recieving a letter the day before we were due to fly out telling us about the building work getting done around Amadores, but we never had any bother with it.

Apartments were basic but when all you do is sleep in them they were fine. A lot of people left to go home the second week of our holiday and it left the apartments about half empty. This was to our advantage at the pool no bother with getting a lounger.

Empty apartments were getting general work done when they were empty including painting. Also loose tiles on pool were getting fixed the day we were leaving.

I would not have a problem going back to Gran Amadores apartments they were clean and the staff were very friendly and location was great.

Two days before going on holiday I received a letter from the tour operator advising of the building works going on. I was already aware of this from reading various reports beforehand, and I mentioned it to the travel consultant when I went to get my currency. They weren't aware of any problems, but suggested I take the letter with me and speak to the rep onsite if I had a problem. Our room was in the middle floor, two thirds of the way round - so we weren't bothered once with the building works. In any event, work started on the site @ 9am and finished around 7. We discussed it with a few people in the apartments, and nobody showed any concern about it - although we were the only ones to have had advance warning about it from the tour operator.

We arrived in the early hours of the Monday morning so couldn't tell much about the accomodation initially... just happy to get to bed. I was pleasantly surprised at having a foam mattress as on my 2 previous holidays the beds were majorly uncomfortable, and spoiled our trip.

The accomodation was spacious, and basic - exactly as expected. We rented a fan from reception, 25 euros + 5 deposit. We had no complaints at all about our room, or about the apartments generally. There seemed to be a programme of maintenance in place, and like the previous person said, the tiles on the pool were being replaced on the day we left. In fact, My b/f and I spent a while on the last day in the pool retrieving tiles from the bottom and passing them onto the staff. It should be pointed out that the tiles were the 1" square mosaic tiles, in case anyone mistakenly thinks that the pools were in a really bad way.

The cleaners worked their socks off. The rooms were cleaned to a very high standard 5 times a week, even washing our dishes and putting them away! Each morning the pool area was cleaned. the loungers were stacked up, the area swept and scrubbed, then hosed down. the loungers were also wiped down. All the walkways were mopped every day, and the only litter around the place was left there by some fellow residents (inconsiderate ones!) and was removed in next to no time by the staff.

The reception staff couldn't have been any nicer, cheery and helpful for the entire 2 weeks.

We had a few meals in the Scotch Corner bar, and went to the barbeque night both weeks we were there. We were puzzled by the bell ringing behind the bar with no obvious reason why - eventually figuring it out on our last day (don't ask - I'm sworn to secrecy LOL) The meals were very reasonably priced, and when I realised the breakfast came complete with a tattie scone, I was in heaven. Never has the humble potato scone tasted so good!

We enjoyed the entertainment the nights it was on, but found the weekends very quiet. The shows next door at the Mirador were well worth seeing, especially if you get the chance to see Stuart the hypnotist - I laughed until my sides ached, it was really brilliant. Lloyd, the DJ @ Gran Amadores was a really nice bloke - he worked the audience well, and even had a stab at the karaoke himself when he was short on volunteers - God love him!!! I enjoyed the bingo, and the cocktail qiz, and the play your cards right. Cheesy, God yes - but isn't that what you want on holiday?

I'd have no hesitation in returning to Gran Amadores, and would recommend it without question.

My friend Laura & I stayed at the Gran Amadores for 1 week in September. Mostly Scottish folk residing there, whom were very friendly & excellent company.

Apartment was clean & spacious and hotel was ideally located only 5 mins walk from the beautiful beach.

There were no loose tiles as previously reported or walls etc in need of a coat of paint. I could honestly not fault this resort in any way.

Cannot wait to return next year with my fiance!

Gran Amadores Apts. were very clean, reasonably modern and very safe for children.

The prices at the small pool bar and the snacks available were not too bad.

However, if you are going during the summer of 2005, make sure that you are in one of the rooms from 15 to 30, as those in rooms 1 to 14 will be wakened at 8:30am every morning by the builders working on the new hotel at the rear of the apts. You cannot hear any noise from the pool area or your balcony, but you can from the bedroom. This did not upset me too much but a lot of people requested to be moved to new apartments.

I booked through Barrhead Travel and my only disappointment was that they did not tell me about this when I booked.

After a long 4 hour delay in prestwick airport( a marathon as there is nothing to do )we arrived in the apartments at 3.30am in darkness.

After a couple of hours of disturbed sleep we were wakened at 8.30 am with a very loud BANG , BANG , BANG, BANG - we looked out of our bedroom window to see a building site with 2 big jack hammers and a JCB.

This happened monday-friday and apart from a couple of hours in the afternoon it lasted until 7.30pm. There were many families moved to another hotel in Puerto Rico but we decided to stay as our children had made friends, we moved for the second week of our holiday into a room further along the complex out of the way of the noise and were told that many families had done the same .

The apartments are full of Scottish people which is ok if thats what you want from a foreign holiday but some may find it strange.

I don`t know if I would go to the Gran Amadores again unless they decide to pay attention to peoples concerns and do the very obvious repairs that are needed eg plaster falling off walls ,apartment walls need cleaned and the tiles in pools coming off and cutting peoples feet.

These could be very nice apartments if they were cared for and a small amout of money spent on them.

My other concern is that often children sleep in the lounge area and there is free porn on the TV which the children could accidently see if they switched the TV on during the night .

Rooms clean, maid sevice good, food at poolbar okay, entertainment rubbish.

Pool not well looked after-tiles missing and cover missing from under water drain kids complaned of burning eyes with chlorine, rep informed, I was told that chlorine was of normal level!!

Wakened at 7.30am Mon-Fri every morning with pneumatic machinery pounding rocks from the cliffside this was constant till 7pm. There is no escape from the noise,we were not informed of this building work that seems to have been going on for sometime!!

Only consolation was that the beach was georgous. Both centres had good pubs and resturants, only a few euros in a taxi takes you to either.

Would visit Gran Canaria again but not this hotel.

The Gran Amadores is situated in a quiet area. The general design of the apartments is fine and the pools, reception and Scotch Corner bar all blend in well to make it a plesant place for relaxing.

There is a small shop inside reception where you can get some essentials and your newspaper. The bar does food all day and had a quiz & karoki most nights. Bar shuts at 12 o'clock prompt.

We found everyone friendly at these apartments. We found that you could go next door to the Mirador del Atlantico and watch the entertainment there and then return for a few drinks at Scotch Corner.

The Gran Amadores was a good base to top up the tan or explore further afield, or if you wanted to just relax and do nothing. You could do all these from here.

We stayed in the Amadores Accommodation for a week in May this year we got a great price and we were impressed by the accommodation and the area. Although the entertainment was not very good we went into town every night which only cost 3euros each way. I would definately recommend San Miguel for a great va;lkue, great portion all round great meal and the Cactus bar for the cocktail list. All in all we had a great time there and I am heading back again in September

Great pool, quiet and near the ideal for lazy relaxing holiday. We had a few days partying at the pool as Diane Walker was 40 & we all had a party, David, Jamie, Carolann, Russel, Gran, Jamie,Jordan, and Haddy fae Wishy.

Had our carry out & duty free at the pool, no one said a thing, great place for self catering we made our lunch & partied, morning noon & night at the pool.

2 minutes walk to the beach when we got bored to hide from the sun.
