Small apartments but very clean. Nice staff, good location with plenty of restaurants to choose from all within a very short walk. Short transfer from airport.

You would find better and nearer Puerto Del carmen for the money.

A specially booked break for my husband & I to enjoy a rest, after an extremely emotional & difficult past 2 years. 'All Inclusive' near the beach. Just what we needed. 28/09/18-Arrival @ reception: Did we want an upgrade? Yes please! That will cost an additional €5 per night for Wifi & Air Con = €45. (Air con works for 2 hours at a time & is only in the bedroom.) Additional deposits of €10 x 2 for TV remote & Safety Deposit box. Enter accommodation! It's tired, dated, pretty shabby & in Area 8 (See photos). After a 15 minute walk to breakfast the following morning we thought we'd visit reception to request accomodation nearer to the restaurant. After all we're 'All Inclusive' and don't particularly fancy walking to the restaurant 3 times a day but also back to Area8 afterwards = 6 times a day. Saturday mornings Reception visit/response - if we wanted to change rooms it would be 'an upgrade' & will cost an additional €20 per night! We reminded reception of our previous nights 'upgrade' & suggested a 'downgrade' to where we would have originally been staying. Sorry, was the response, that's not possible & if you move accomodation you will also be charged for the cleaning of the room because you stayed in it last night! We later visited reception a further 3 times on the Saturday as we pursued our reasonable request with number of accomodation we could see were empty. No luck, so we give up. Sunday - a telephone call from reception. They have accomodation in Area2. At last we think! Ahhhh but an additional €20 per night still stands! On point of principle we refused. Monday night - temperatures have been high, weather is amazing but no clean towels or sheets in our room. Bedding - pillows are rock hard & uncomfortable. Food - lukewarm, didn't look appetising & very limited choice. Over our 9 night stay we gradually became 'self catering'. My sincere apologies to the room cleaning staff for leaving our dishes in the sink. I absolutely refused to wash dishes when we paid so much for an 'All Inclusive' holiday. The main restaurant bar area is not a welcoming venue for 'All Inclusive'. This should be looked at by management. People who book, pay for & expect 'All Inclusive' should be housed in Areas 1,2,3 & 4. Cleaning - Friday 5th October - the first time our outside patio area was swept & cleaned. I find this a difficult review to write & that's because of the lovely staff who all work at The Las Gaviotas. This review is not intended to disrespect the hard work & efforts you all put into maintaining these properties but is intended to highlight the failings of the owners & management of The Hotel Collection. The complex is spread over an extremely large area & not equipped for 'All Inclusive'. On the subject of staff members at The Las Gaviotas we found, Emmanuel, the bar organiser in Area8 to be the saving grace of our stay. Emmanuel is one of the most polite, hardworking & helpful young men we have had the pleasure to meet. Sadly, if it were not for his cheery personality & attendance to customer service I believe our holiday would have been disastrous. Thank you Emmanuel. We love Lanzarote but sadly we won't be recommending or returning to The Las Gaviotas.Show less

The promenade is absolutely spotless and we walked every day along it up to the airport where you can sit on the wall and watch the planes coming and going.
The entertainment though limited is excellent. We went to the Auld Triangle which is run my Dave and Marie from Dublin.
The food is excellent and the entertainment is as well. We also visited Barties Bar which is very good for food and the First and Last for breakfast and the odd night.
Great bloke playing John from Dublin who got married when we were over there. Did not like the Slow Boat chinese this year as the curry was made from chicken skin and the sweet and sour balls had no meat in them. We went into Port Del Carmen most nights.
Flanagans Drag Show is brill no cover charge and beer cheap and great service. We always go twice when were are on two week holidays. Another place in the old town is Irish Rover lovely steak and chip and veg for 5 and happy hour between 9 - 1030 which is great, also entertainment good as well.
We go to the American Indian Cafe which is beside Mcdonalds. Also Scotties bar has moved and is up near the Dubliner. His new bar is lovely and he is great crack.

Matagorda is very quiet but that was fine for us! We just wanted to chill out by the pool in the day and at night we took a short and cheap taxi into Puerto Del Carmen where the choice of restaurants and bars was unbelievable! You have to go to Lani's Tex Mex, it was yummy! You'll find Lani's is every other restaurant so look out for the 'Tex Mex'! I would say Matagorda would suit older couples or a family with very young children.
One afternoon we took a walk on the promenade and it was lovely - so clean. And because you're close to the airport you could see the planes coming in. I would definately go back to this resort.

matagorda is a nice friendly family resort, alot quieter than pourto del carmen. the beaches are clean and close by, and there are some restaurants and pubs closeby too.

We had stayed in Puerto Del Carmen previously and much preferred the quieter and cleaner area of Matagorda. Some people would perhaps object to the close proximity of the airport, but the aircraft noise was minimal and it was great to see the planes landing close up and also to be so close for transfer to and from the airport.
The beach promenade is pedestrianised and much nicer to walk along than Puerto Del Carmen's busy main road. The beach was clean and of the darker light brown sand. It never seemed to get too busy and although there are some rocks it is easy to enter the water all along the long beach area.
The commercial centre had a few shops, bars and restaurants to cater for most tastes. The bars do seem to cater a lot for the large number of Irish families who seem to visit the resort. Nothing was too noisy and everything seemed to close fairly early.

The resort of Matagorda is a lot quietier than the main areas of Lanzarote but only a short taxi ride in to the centre of pdc.We visited the Rancho Texas night which was fantastic and all cowboy loving kids will love also we went to Titty Trollops drag act which was very funny and a great night out as well. The beach is good too but wear plenty of sun cream as you will not feel yourself burning due to the breeze. There are a good few bars in Matagorda but we never seen any of them as our Hotel was so good.

I won't be in a hurry to go back to Matagorda as I found the resort too quiet. I had two 16yr olds with me who got bored very easily. There was 1 bar Rockola which had different entertainment every night, but it was repeated the second week. A taxi into Puerto Del Carmen only cost about 5euros

The resort has everything from the start of the new town along the strip to the old town about 30-40 minutes walking non stop. Shops, restaurants, bars, casino, banks, pharmacist and doctors.

We stayed for 11 nights with friends and although the weather was pretty poor for 5 days we had a fantastic holiday and also a fantastic sun tan,,, so dont let the clouuds deter you from putting on the cream.
Most nights we taxi'd to the old town for food which was fantastic but also along the road towards the airport is a small selection of restaurants which include Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Spanish, Italian and lots more including pie beans and chips etc,, (mmmm) All recomended !!
We never went to the hotel for entertainment as previous reviews were not great and we prefered to find a pub with a bid TV to watch the world cup, we spent a few nights at Berties bar wich was an Irish bar where the food is excellent and the karaoke is the best selection of songs I have ever seen.
I would recommend you do a dive for beginners, we used a dive centre at the restaurant complex (towards the airport) called (the dive shop) An English guy called mike, he is very good and you wont believe the amount of fish you will see, also, go for the photo package, he takes a digital underwater camera and the pics are great, they play as a slideshow on your DVD at home, perfect.
Cant say much about the beach massages but "MARIA MASSAGE DID MY HEAD INN" every 2 hours you hear " maria massage, best on the beach!!" If you plan to buy any electrical goods ie a camera or camcorder, do your homework here first on prices etc and take a copy of "which camera" or similair with you,
A guy I know paid £700 (our money) for a £300 camera, "these guys are pretty good" so chose what you want here, know what it costs and dont budge, even if the demonstration looks like, what you want is bad quality compaired to what they want to sell, Thats what they are good at, (Changing your mind)
No Regrets and will be back, so go book it and have a good time.... Alan
