We booked this hotel because we like the area, the hotel had a number of strong points, particularly the staff who were without exception, professional, polite and curteous. The hotel was immaculately clean and the servicing and maintenance was exceptional too.
The food arrangements were not of the same standard, two sittings for evening meals meant there were queues to get in and then queues for the servery's, after a week the repetetive food was beginning to tell and we yearned for a change. At breakfast I missed my omelette that was available on request at other nearby hotels, you would not be bothered if you missed breakfast because you would not have missed much.
The entertainment was just above average, but that seems to be consistent, the good turns seem to have disappeared.
This hotel does not cater for children, no kids club and no real facilities either, the SAGA club were not that receptive to the kids playing aloud either, the staff made a lot of the children, again with consistency.
We would visit the hotel again, but we do prefer the Costa Adeje Gran, a few kilometres along the road.

Hotel was excellent, well run, clean and comfortable. The staff were polite and friendly. We had been to a Riu hotel before and they have a very high standard.
If you are going with Portland Direct holidays, suggest that you email the hotel and confirm that your room has been booked.
We arrived (also three other couples on the same day) to find that the room had not been booked and the hotel was full. It seems that this is not uncommon and you are then expected to move to another hotel. In our opinion this was not Riu's fault, it was the fault of Portland Direct. We paid extra for a suite as that was all that was available and are now trying to get our money back from Portland-Direct.

Riu Arecas is in the area of El Duque. The hotel is fantastic and food excellent. The beach is a 5min stroll down a few steps and It takes about 15-20 mins to walk in to Fanabe or by taxi a 2 min ride where there is numerous bars and restaurants.
Could not fault this hotel one bit and looking forward to going back next year
