Just returned from a fabulous week staying at the Hotel Royal. A beautiful hotel, good location, lovely food and friendly helpful staff. The whole hotel is kept spotlessly clean.
My only moan is that my mum (75) booked a mobility scooter due to a serious back injury. For the first 2 days she left it tucked away under the spiral staircase but on the 3rd day was asked to park it beneath the hotel in the underground car park. OK we thought but they then wanted her to pay 5 euros a day to do this. What a cheek and we think this discriminates disabled people. She has never had to pay for this on any of our previous visits to other hotels. When we were leaving I complained to the receptionist who said if you don't agree then don't pay. I would just like this to be a warning to other people who may have disability problems.
Happy hour between 13.00 - 14.00 and between 20.00 - 21.00 every day. Weather was great, very hot and sunny and was most surprised how hot it was.
Would definitely book here again but only if no charge for mobility scooters.

We stayed in the Royal several years ago when it was a run of the mill 3* hotel. But having witnessed it being totally gutted and refurbished and upgraded to a 4* last year we both decided it was worth a revisit and give us a chance to get a short distance away from the hustle of the Ricon & Levante as it is just to the back of the Old Town.
This hotel rates as one of the top two we have stayed in, the other being the Best Western Victoria straight across the road also owned by the same man who is now 89 years old and every day continually pops between the two to ensure all is perfect. A very friendly old chap who likes to acknowledge & chat with his clientele.
The hotel has been finished off in very tidy and comfortable manner and is still in as new condition.
The bedrooms are of average size with a double mirrored wardrobe, dressing table, bedside cupboards etc.but perhaps a few draws short. It is also carpeted, as two uphosted chairs and a standard lamp plus a fridge/mini bar. One minor niggle is if you are caught using the fridge for your own use there is a charge of 1.5 euros a day
The bathroom is as you would expect clean & functional.
The dining is very personal as the tables and chairs are well spaced giving ample room, reminiscent of an up town restaurant. The staff are on the ball and empty plates are whipped away from your tables in seconds.
The food served is as good if not better than any of the other two dozen or so hotels in Benidorm I have stayed in. It was of good quality and of varied selection prepared properly. No matter how fickle an eater you may be you will have no fears or problems here it is top notch.
The public areas are small just a bar/lounge with a large LCD television plus a glassed area around the bar for the use by smokers.
The hotels strong point for many is the "happy hour" from 7pm until 9pm, this makes the drinks cheaper than most bars in the town. San Miguel at 1.25 a pint, shorts at around 1.50 with mixers at just .80.
The result is that it attracts people from the surrounding hotels but never once did it get crowded but gave the lounge a pleasant atmosphere.
Not that in early March you get many chances to use the pool and sun terrace put they are of good size for a small hotel and have direct access to the bar. The sun did appear to linger on this area so I would imagine in high summer this is an unbeatable sun trap.
Finally, for anyone unsure of the location of the Hotel Royal it is around a 200 metre stroll down to the start of the old town past the Benidorm Plaza
