Punta de Torrox Holidays

Lying on the coast beneath Torrox lies the modern resort of Punta de Torrox. Although the resort has long been popular with Germans, it is becoming increasingly well know in the UK. The resort boasts a wide sandy beach while apartments and villas remain some of the most popular forms of accommodation. As it is away from the main tourist areas, the resort is considered relatively laid back. Day trips worth considering include driving inland to neighbouring Torrox, a Moorish town with an impressive history, and also the nearby, and much larger, resort of Nerja.

There is not much to say about Torrox as there isn't much there. That's fine if you want a relax holiday (which we did). It's clearly still early days for the Torrox area in terms of developing the tourist trade. There are some decent, but quiet, bars and restaurants along the playa area and a handfull of shops. If you want anything more you have to go into Nerja (a fixed 10 Euro fare by taxi or a cheap bus fare). Nerja is a great little town with some cracking beaches - including the Burriana. The only problem we had was a lack of public loos - you have to practice the art of peeing in the surf whilst looking demure and innocent.

Torrox is kept tidy from litter and dirt and the streets and beaches are swept every day, it may look a bit untidy because there is a lot of building work going on all along the coast and Torrox is no exception.

If you want golden sand don't go here, it's a grey colour but that doesn't stop the sunshine, right?

Torrox is a good halfway house for the tours that the travel reps sell as it's in between the route to Granada and those places up the coast and the routes down the coast to Malaga/Marbella and even Gibraltar (don't waste your money going to Gib).

All in all we enjoyed the area but then we love Spain, the people etc.

Torrox Costa was a fairly quiet resort (In February) but relaxing too as a result. A good choice of restaurants along the promenade including authentic Spanish & Italian, Chinese and Thai.

The beach was very clean and look out for the sand sculptures - they were amazing whilst we were there.i.e. Porsche and Beetle cars, lion, squirrel, mermaid.

If you are looking for somewhere slightly away from the main Costa del Sol resorts and near to Nerja, Torrox is the place to be, there's also plenty of Spanish culture to be observed particularly if you take a trip to Torrox town.

We didn't go onto the beach so can only comment on the appearance of the beach which seemed clean. The promanade was well used and we enjoyed the many little cafes for coffee drinking and watching the world go by.

There were supermarkets and pharmacy nearby and a small shop in the hotel entrance served for daily newspaper and postcards. The local market was on Monday and was immediately adjacent to the hotel.

We intend to visit this hotel again, Torrox was quiet but the hotel had every facillity, meals were supurb and choice seemed endless. The swimming pool outside was being cleaned and tiling repointed in preparation for the younger visitors later in the year, we "oldies" enjoyed the indoor pool, gym and sauna.

The gardens and sun terraces were a pleasure to visit and sunbath and the sound of tumbling water from the waterfeatures was very relaxing. Entrance to the promanade was from the bottom of the gardens so there was no roads to cross or traffic to worry about.

We had a really enjoyable holiday.

Smallish resort with not a lot going on. The sand is greyish and resembles mud when wet so didnt venture on to it as it didnt look very appealing!
