Cap Salou Holidays

4 out of 5 from 14 reviews
Located to the north of Salou and south of La Pineda, the Cap Salou promontory is well known for three little coves nestled between the cliffs. Each of the coves has lifeguard facilities and you can reach them from Salou or La Pineda with a short drive although the last leg of the journey is a bit of a trek down some stairs. One of the best ways of exploring the cap is to walk the mile-long Salou Coastal Path which provides access to to even the most inaccessible areas thanks to a wooden board walk. However, be warned the path does reach a maximum height of 77 metres above sea level, meaning the very infirm may struggle with it.

Cap Salou is small, but clean and has a few bars and restaurants. We liked the Smugglers Inn and The Paddock, for meals. Both English run and staff very friendly and very helpful, especially with us having 3 children who didn't know what they wanted to eat from night to night! There was children's fair area in Cap Salou, with bungee trampolines, mini go karts and other rides for the kids. The walk back uphill is definitely not for those with walking difficulties or breathing problems. I have asthma and had to take my inhaler most nights, by time I reached the top! Though it was steep, it was long and the hot weather wouldn't have helped me!

The beaches were very clean though we didn't use them, preferring the pool. Port Aventura is great for children and adults alike. Some people say you could get round it in a day, but I don't think so. We went twice and didn't get round all the areas or all the rides. We'd bought a 14 day pass at home, and it meant we could go as and when we pleased. We didn't try Costa Caribe Water Park but we did go to Aquapolis in La Pineda. This was great, the dolphin and sea lion show was well enjoyed by both children and adults. Do take money with you though as you need to hire lockers and rubber rings as these are not provided.

All in all, we had a good holiday, a few more pubs and restaurants close to hand, and more varied entertainment wouldn't have gone a miss but that said, I would recommend Cap Salou for a relaxing holiday, even with children!

Cap Salou is ideal if you have young children. The beach is small enough to keep a close eye on them [see photo gallery]and there a few amusements in the main street at night.
Mickeys Bar was a favouate for us as the kids could run about. Howver adults might prefer Snugglers for a better menu.
Barcelona highlight tour and family fun cruise {via First Choice Rep}were excellent day trips. We enjoyed Acqapolis [great dolphin show there too] and Portaventura Theme park...stayed late to see the magnificnet firework show at night.
