Date Of Hol :- 14th to 21st August 2004
We have recently returned from a 7 day Holiday to Costa Dorada. I can honestly say it was great !!!. The weather was great and the location was even better.
We chose the Mas D'en Gran appartments from a brochure and at first we were a bit apprehensive as the picture in the book is not the best, also after reading the reviews it didn't seem the best choice.
On arriving at the apartments, they looked a hundred times better than pictured, we were located on the third floor with a lateral sea view. Each section of the appartments are served with a seperate lift (this was clean and always in good working order).
When we entered the appartment, we were pleasantly surprised by the clean and hygenic rooms. Albeit the decor and furnishings are a little dated, they are suitable for the purpose they serve. We planned before going on holiday to see as much as we could of Salou and Cambrils and didn't intend to spend much time in the apartment.
The apartment consisted of the following :-
Kitchen :- Newly Refurbished Work Tops, Non Slip Tiled Floor, Fridge Freezer, Gas Cooker (Old Style) and Gas Water Boiler (we were fortunate to have a washing machine, this is not standard). It should be noted that Gas Fittings are not of the Uk's High Standard but are safe to use.
Living Room :- Tiled Floor, Three and Two seater sofas, Dining Table and Large Wall Unit. This room leads on to the Balcony, this being large with plastic garden furniture and a drying horse for clothes.
Bath Room :- 4 Piece, comprising Sink, Bath, Bidet and Tolilet. The bath had a Mixer Shower linked to the taps and was adequate for washing. The bath is seated lower than the UK but all in all everyting was fine.
Main Bed Room :- Located at the rear of the apartment, Two single beds pushed together (comfy though), large wardrobe and bedside cabinets, also with tiled floor.
Second Bed Room :- Located at the Front of the apartment, Two single beds, large wardrobe (Smallest Room), again with tiled floor. One drawback is that it faced onto the stairwell and you can hear coming and goings late at night.
A few other Points :- The overall security is excellent with two seperate yale type locks situated in a heavy door. The window locks were basic but adequate. The building is situated approx 50 m from the beach which is perfect and is about a 30 min walk from both Salou and Cambrills. There is a main road nearby and a railway line but these cause no problems or noise.
The maids from the Sister Hotel (Maritim Princess) visited our aparment three times during the seven days (Mon, Wed, Fri) and cleaned the rooms perfectly. Bed Linen/Towels are changed once a week but this didn't apply to us, we did however have the washing machine which was a big help.
All in all the apartments were great and the location was excellent. I would recommend them to anyone, I would also choose them again as a place to stay !.

Me and my family totally enjoyed our stay at he Mas d'n Gran. we Couldn't have wished for anything better and was it perfect for the little time we were actually at the apartment. We were dreading going as we had read so much negative feedback on internet reveiw sites.
The Hotel was very clean and alot different from what i was expecting. There was the odd spot of dust, but if i had wanted five star luxury i would have checked in to something a little more pricey and more upmarket. The rooms were light and airy and although some of the furniture was pretty basic it was fine and did the job it was supposed to do.The hotel sheets and blankets were clean and fresh smelling and were changed once a week. maid service was every other day and they came in and tidied up in general. The bathroom was small and a little dark but there were two sets of bright lights in there which obviously made it brighter. The decor was a little dated but again the bathroom was very pratical and the facilities worked well. The kitchen was lovely and included a kettle, a fridge/mini freezer,an oven and all the necessary cultary. The bedrooms were clean and the beds were comfy to sleep in. The balconey was extremely safe and we had a beautiful veiw of the sea and of the swimming pool.
All the apartments at the Mas d'n gran are self catering but there are very good supermarkets and restaurants close by.
The location of the apartments was brilliant and salou and cambrils port were both in easy walking distance. salou has a wide range of shops and nightlife and some really good restaurants. whilst cambrils is a lot quiter with less shops but equally as good restaurants. The apartments are situated alongside the beach which is perfect for a nice stroll and great for lovers of the beach.
The staff at the neighbouring hotel the "maritin princess" are also in charge of the mas d'n gran and they do a great job looking after the people and their needs. The entertainment is also put on at the Maritin Princess and there is something for every age group.
I would definately stay here again.

We have stayed here four times. The location is right on the beach.
Rooms are large clean and well stocked eg. iron etc.. maids clean every two days.
The pool is ok but there are no sunbeds the caretaker keeps it spotless.
There is no entertainment at the apartments but you can go next door & theres plenty of bars near by the Queens being a good one - food here is excellent.
If your going in July & Aug because the apartments have residents the Spanish kids can be noisey till after midnight. Learn some spanish and shout at them or do what the spanish do, go for a siesta go out about 9 and then you'll come in later.
We love these apartments. They are somewere to sleep after a very lazy relaxing day on the beach, if your looking for something more livelier this is not the place. However. Salou with all its hustle is only a bus (1 euro 20) away its fantastic place but its nice to get back to Cambrils.

The apartment was very dated. You have to pay 30 euros for deposit.
The hot water ran out after two quick showers, there was a ants nest in the hall, the lift got stuck a few times,a lot of noise was heard from the main rd and railway night and day. The swimming pool is surrounded by a carpark which is built under the apartments, the pool is too deep for young kids, i nearly got ran over trying to get to the pool,in the end we used the martim princess pool next door as they own the apartments, they treated us like the poor relations.
The hotel entertainment was awful, not much here for familys, except visit the themepark and waterparks they are good, but do not eat there take own food as we ate chicken and ribs at themepark and we had upset tummys, and which your bags etc as my little girl got her swim bag stolen with her clothes inside with pocket money.
The apartment wasnt that clean, the sheets and towels smelt as if they had been stored in a musty smokey cuboard, the toilet had a bad smell from it like the sewers, outside the apartments was like a dump, lots of smelly bins lined up at the raod sides, also on the road there was a dead smelly cat that in the two weeks we stayed had not been cleaned up cars kept parking over it and the smell was awful walking past.
Also beware of fellas trying to sell you fake items every five mins, even in the local bars,it gets on your nerves alot, you have to be very very VERY blunt with them.
There are lots of supermarkets around but they close after 8pm. You have to go into salou for gifts and shopping, stay away from the keiko stalls in salou, they are fast enough to take your money but when the item does not work they wont care leaving you standing there only for 1 member of his staff decided to help us,and after being ignored for 10 mins they replaced the item, dont give refunds, they pavements are very slippy so be careful,
