Our first impression wasn't too good as we were given the smallest room I've ever had in all my years of holidays. It certainly had no resemblance whatsoever with the official photos on their website. We didn't accept it and were then give a larger room which even had a balcony overlooking the Gran Via. The room and bathroom were spotless. It had good A/C, a tv, a minibar and the strangest wardrobe- the hangers were too wide for it!! Plenty of drawer space though and a safe.
The double balcony doors cut out all the noise from the busy street. We booked this hotel as we were on a strict budget and this seemed the best we could find- we were not disappointed. Breakfast was very good- a wide variety of things on offer. You couldn't fault it.
There is internet in the hotel. There was not a bar but you don't need it. Reception were efficient.
One tip- I had read that they don't keep luggage for you after the midday checkout. Ask to join their hotel group card scheme, it costs nothing and with it comes a 4pm late check out!
The hotel is located right next to the metro and only a couple of minutes from the open topped tourist bus( which I would recommend). To be honest- I wasn't too impressed with the Gran Via itself, although others love it. We preferred the older part of Madrid with its plazas and cobbled streets, which is where we went at nights. However I would return to the Washington as it is really good value for money.
