4th visit to Sri Lanka trying yet another location and hotel. I knew when I booked that it takes over 3 hours to travel to Bentota so (for a very good price) booked a taxi with the tour operator. It took just over 2.5 hrs and once we had got through Columbo we seemed to make progress and arrived at the hotel. We were greeted on arrival with the usual drink and flannel and off we went to our room. Mercury are only allocated standards at this hotel and whilst it was perfectly OK as we were staying for nearly 3 weeks I asked if it was possible to upgrade (for a price!!) to a superior. Our new room was on the ground floor looking out onto the pool and the beach. It was very comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar (chargeable), plenty of cupboard space, TV and DVD player. Perfectly adequate bathroom (no bath) with shower gels etc in a cabinet on the wall which I mistakenly thought for the 1st couple of days was just a mirror!! There was a mossy net round the bed and a plug in unit on the wall. No safe in the room but this wasn't a problem as you could get one at reception. we went to sri lanka for the first time and its wonderful.we stayed in hotel serendib.when we arrived at this hotel the welcome we had was great.the entrance to the hotel was lovely with an open air reception and a big pond with koi carp and other fish swimming around.the staff are just so friendly and cant do enough for you.its a peacful hotel right on the beach front.we went half board and found the food lovely and plenty to choose from.what you got to remember is you are not going to have your typical british food such as pie n chips.the food is spicy but when your visiting a counrty such as sri lanka then you have to go with the flow.for breakfast theres plenty such as bacon, egg, cereal, toast and much more.if your more daring theres even a curry or 2 to choose from.evening meals theres currys, pastas, salad, potatoes and much more.our rooms got cleaned everyday and clean towels everyday to. fresh flowers on our beds which was lovely.the cleaners really made an effort which was great.the location was fab right on the beach front, what more can you ask for.there is a train station not to far away so you can explore the country for very little.there was'nt much entertainment going on but we went in low season so i suppose there would be better entertainment in higher seasons.we would definatly visit this hotel again as everyone from the gardeners to the managers couldnt do enough for you...
