A personal opinion based on 7 nights in March 2012.
A friendly welcome with refreshing towels and cool drinks. First impression was good and this never changed - a bright, spacious, airy hotel. We had booked a superior deluxe room and were not disappointed by the room or it's facilities. A spacious room in good decorative order, good lighting and with oceans of cupboard space.
The hotel was kept clean and tidy but the housekeeping standards for the room were poor. Beds were not changed regularly (I had to chase to get my bedding changed), beds were poorly made, soap and even toilet paper were not replenished and I had to ask for both, towels were old and discoloured and, once again on two days out of 7 we were actually left without towels - by far the worst housekeeping that we have ever encountered. Water supplied is limited to one 500ml bottle per person. Any more must be paid for, unless you are on an AI deal.
There were two restaurants. An all day cafe which was also the A la Carte restaurant and a buffet restaurant. The A la Carte menu was limited and the hotel seemed to cater for an all inclusive multi national customers - in consequence the buffet was 'interesting' to say the least.

we stayed at this hotel on recomendation that r+r are the order of the day the hotel doesnt have an entertainment team so dont go expecting it.
the food here is of an exceptable standard they do different themes but if you are really struggling then ask the waiter if they will cook you something to order (i had a steak twice absolutly beautiful) the staff are absolutly brilliant they will go out of there way to help you from the restaurant to the room boys i found that little tip here and there is really apreciated there are loads of loungers just find an empty one then look for a lifegaurd and catch his attention then he will fetch you a matress from here you dont need to move as the pool waiters will mill around and fetch any drinks you need all day long if you are feeling energetic there is a gym ,tennis court and a squash court available
it is set a little bit out of the way but there are tuc tucs out side ready to take you anywhere (cheaper than taxis) the local people are fiendly so walking about isnt a problem would like to say look out for aruna manik and sunny three top guys and yes i will be going back

We booked our holiday through Mercury Direct who we had not travelled with before for a very good price on an A/I basis travelling with a scheduled airline direct from our local airport. This was our 2nd visit to Sri Lanka and this time I chose a hotel that didn't take 3/4 hours travel from the airport. I had read many reviews before travelling and I must say that the hotel met all our expectations. The rooms which all had a sea view were perfectly adequate and contained tea/coffee making facilities, a fully stocked bathroom plenty of cupboard space, TV, mini bar (payable) and a free safe. The room boys did a very good job cleaning the room each day and the evening turn down service was a nice touch. The location is quite remote but the local town and indeed Columbo where I went shopping 1 day were quite accessible with a taxi or tuc tuc. All the staff were very pleasant and attentive, the food in the restaurant was quite good but I must admit to struggling on a couple of occasions. The pool bar served a variety of snacks which I enjoyed. There was no rush for sun beds at this resort there were plenty available throughout the day. The beach, well let's just say I've seen better, no white sands here like the beaches in the South. Entertainment was laid on in an evening but it's not my cup of tea anyway. This holiday was purely for R and R and this is exactly what we got. If I had to make a criticism it would be that they need to provide more comfortable seats (even if it's only a cushion on a chair) this is particularly noticable of an evening when you are sat relaxing after dinner or watching the entertainment. We are returning to Sri Lanka in September (got a good price again) but staying within half an hour of the airport.

Another lovely hotel, but in hindsight, probably not the best choice on our part.
The hotel is well designed and very relaxing, but after 4 nights there we were a bit bored and looking forward to going home.
There is very little to do at the hotel other than using the pool or paying for further excursions
