The pool area and the gardens were very nice, the general upkeep and cleanliness of communal areas was good, and there seemed enough sun loungers.
The breakfast was excellent lots of choice and mostly freshly cooked. The eggs were cooked however you wanted, while you waited. We ate in the snack bar a few times and food was good and reasonably priced. However cannot comment on the other restaurants as we didn't have time to use them!
The location right on Kotu beach was fantastic! There were also enough restaurants around the hotel for a weeks stay. You could also take get around easily from the hotel, either by taxi or on foot along the beach or road.
Staff were mostly very friendly and helpful.
There were plenty of daytime activities if you wanted them, and the evening entertainment was excellent, mostly African bands and dancing.
The only slightly negative aspect to our stay was our accommodation.
We booked a suite as it wasn't that much more expensive than a basic room and we'd read a few negative comments on the rooms, and had read that suites had been refurbished, however it was obvious ours hadn't. It was very dated, tatty and shabby, the bathroom was in need of a refit, and all the windows were very dirty. The balcony was also covered in dust. Having said that, it wasn't so bad that we couldn't put up with it for a week. Sheets and towels were clean although a little jaded and we did have all the facilities we needed - safe, fridge, tea making facilities and hair dryer, and everything worked. If we went again we would try to ascertain that we had a room/suite that had been refurbished.

Great hotel put on a good NYE Gala dinner + fireworks.
Room was adjoining with kids(Premium ) and it was a suite so had new air con unit, tv, hairdryer, fridge, kettle and bath.
Right on beach but we were pestered there by local bumsters so preferred pool which was lovely but freezing cold!!
Staff were mainly friendly but there was one girl on duty in the dining room who neede a kick up th backside as I saw her asleep on duty on one morning (and that wasn't NY Eve!!)
I went to this hotel in 1984 and again now - I won't leave it so long next time!

Our family (2 adults and children age 13, 11 and 9) have just returned from a week at the KOMBO BEACH hotel. It was excellent and we will surely be returning.
We were expecting the bare minimum from a hotel in Gambia as this was our first visit to the country. The hotel facilities surprised and delighted us and our tour operators Gambia Experience were also very good and made us feel personally welcome.
We had a suite plus a standard room which were quite basic but clean and functional. The suite has a double bed plus sofa pull out. The standard room had 3 single beds. There are 4 blocks of rooms in separate buildings but all are near the beach but block 300 and 400 are further from the lobby and pool areas.
The restaurants and bars were excellent with 3 different locations with a good selection of meals/snacks and drinks. We did not use the a la carte restaurant as it appeared expensive. Breakfast was very good with hot and cold buffet plus delicious omelette's and pancakes cooked to order.
The pool met with our children and our approval and was well kept and about the right size. There were always sun beds available even though the hotel seemed to be quite full. The pool staff were so friendly and could not do enough.
What really made the hotel special was the activities that were going on during the day and evening, such as boules, darts, aerobics, skittles, table football. All these were organised by the 'animations team' with great enthusiasm. In the evening 2 or 3 different bands or dancers would be at the pool side providing entertainment. This was very good and we always managed to get a seat after coming back from local outside restaurants.
Just out of the hotels entrance there are about 6-8 choices of bars and restaurants with Gambian, Indian, burgers and snacks on offer. These are literally less that 5 minutes walk and there is also a craft market and taxi stand in this area. A walk along the beach also allows access to some other restaurants, and a night club Destiny

We have been to this hotel several times and usually go bed and breakfast but this time we took two of our grandchildren so we went half board.
The food is buffet style and is excellent, the rooms are somewhat dated but are clean and bright. The hotel staff couldn't be friendlier and the staff entertainment team are full of enthusiasm and really keep the pace of entertainment going.
Nightly entertainment is varied, from folk dancers to quite good blues singers.
The location is absolutely superb, right on the beach.

In a word - Brilliant!! I just got back from the Kombo Beach and it was fantastic. Situated right on the beach in Kotu the hotel could'nt be in a better place. The hotel is rated as 3* and although the room we were in was quite small, it was clean had air con and was well looked after. Outside the hotel is a supermarket and some craft stalls as well as a couple of bar/restaurants, with others a few minutes walk away. The swimming pool area was immaculate and just next to the poolside bar are some steps which take you onto the beach!
We have booked again with Jay from Gambiadeals.com and are going in March, this time for two weeks. The people were so friendly, the hotel was lovely and right on the beach. I can highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back.

I have stayed at Kombo Beach for about the last four years and I have always enjoyed my stay there. The hotel has depreicated somewhat over the years, despite their attempts to upgrade some of the rooms.
All rooms are very basic and the whole hotel is in need of restoration. If you have only been to european destinations then there will be a culture shock to the standard of the accommodation.
The hotel has recently been taken over by Gambian Experience and this year's prices have shot through the ceiling.
Brochure prices are around
