The fruits offered at breakfast at Palma Rima were wonderful. Mango, Papaya, Sweet Grapefruit, Bananas, Melon -fresh, organic and plentiful. We put some in the Porridge!

There was also eggs, patties and fresh tomatoes as well as fried potatoes, toast and local preserves. Not a lot wrong with that!

Our bungalow was cleaned daily and fresh spotless sheets and towels every second day. The bathroom could have done with regrouting, but the water was hot every time and the toilet flushed on command. Not bad for a developing country.

The hotel was just a short stroll from the beach and ideally located for Senegambia outings and quick transfer from the airport.

The staff were friendly and helpful -do anything for you! All the usual stuff poolside service, helpful reception staff. Best of all the staff were friendly and attentive. I didn't get the impression that they were solely after tips-they seemed genuinely keen to give good service and do their jobs well.

The entertainment was a scream especially the dance troops. Tongue in cheek fun which had us rocking about.

We stayed at the Palma Rima hotel in Kololi the Gambia between 17th and 24th January 1995.

We flew from Manchester on a morning flight after a 3 hour overnight drive from Stanley in Co. Durham.

We arrived at Banjul airport at around 3pm if you can change money here as we got the best deal at 53.50 to the pound. Obviously tired and not really wanting too much fuss however as soon as we got into the arrivals area we were immediately surrounded by several porters wanting to carry our bags some even trying to grab bags off people as they took them off the carousel.

We decided to get a porter as we

We have just returned back from the Gambia staying in the Palma Rima hotel on a b&b basis. Breakfast was good and varied.

We stayed in bungalows they were very basic but clean. Maids came in everyday to clean and put fresh towels and changed sheets on regular basis.

Pool was excellent for our children having a seperate toddlers pool.

All staff were very pleasent and very helpful.

The only downside we would say is that the drinks were expensive especially soft drinks and you had to pay extra for a fridge, air conditioning or fans, but overall we found the hotel very good.

We will be returning the the Gambia and would consider returning to the Palma Rima.

The Bungalow that we were allocated was unclean although a maid visited on a daily basis. We were told that we would have two bedrooms as our 16year old daughter was with us but this hotel only has one bed aparts or one bed bungalows and they add extra beds to the one room!so there was no privacy.

My husband had 42 bed bug bites during the 4 nights we stayed there. We were constantly pestered for money by the staff this we expected outside the hotel but not inside.

Our daughter was constantly pestered by the hotel staff and one of them tried to force kiss her this made her very frightened to leave our sides so all in all we were not happy bunnies we contacted our rep who sorted out an up grade for us which enabled us to enjoy the rest of our holiday.

We stayed B&B in this hotel (because we like to try other restaurants and there are quite a number in senegambia. The food wasn't bad when we ate there, and personally i thought the breakfast was gorgeous. (Others weren't keen n the breaksfast and I guess if your expecting a UK breakfast you may be disappointed.

This hotel has a massive pool, and they do water polo and aqua aerobics in the pool. Theres plenty of sun beds (but get up early to put your towel down!!)

The reception area is very spacious, and you can tell it has recently been done up.

If you intend to stay here I HONESTLY would recommend paying the

This was the 2nd time we travelled to Palma Rima as we stayed in January 2001 and loved it so much. Just a 6 hr flight from Gatwick and GMT the same.

We managed to stay in a bungalow again thanks to Mr. Par, the accommodation manager, whom we called in advance to request it.

The food is good especially glad to see Pablo the chef was still there.

The bar staff is the biggest mistake the owners made as the 1st time the staff bent over backwards to help you but the new guys in the Sunshine bar were a bit sour faced. We used to wind them up until they smiled.

Biggest pool in the Gambia, bit cold though just like the Atlantic.

The hotel has lovely little waterfalls built into the walls and little streams around the complex but nothing had been switched on as nearing end of season.

Apart from the fact that my husband was bitten badly by sand flies on the beach at Senagambia we had a good wedding anniversary. The bites came up like big blood blisters and burst in bed at night but the cleaner was absolutely brilliant did not question she got a very big tip at the end of the holiday.

Entertainment: well not a lot of it the a team tried but as I found out a friend of ours from the original a team Badu they are not paid by hotel they rely on what you put on the plate at the end of the show so please give a few Dalasi as they need the money.

Location not to bad apart from the 100m walk to the beach with the hawkers hassling you. Just tell them not the first time to the Gambia and you have a Gambian friend if that doesn
