We travelled to Tunisia early Boxing Day 2005, our first trip to the country. We chose the Sol Azur as it looked fab in the Panorama brochure - the 'middle one' in a complex of 3 (the Sol is 4*, Bel 3*, Royal 5*) - and on arrival, we were not disappointed. The hotel was lovely - foyer elegant, rooms very clean and spacious.

Breakfast wasn't very exciting, and we ate out at lunchtimes (we were on HB), evenings the food was excellent - very varied, ranging from exotic (which we like) to traditional. Dining room was gorgeous and couldn't fault service.

Hotel was a short walk from centre of Hammamet - well located.

Only downside was, it was freezing this particular week! Still, we made the most of it and went on several excursions - inc. Sidi Bou Said, Carthage and Bardot Museum - also spent a couple of days in the spa at the Royal Azur(fantastic indoor/outdoor pool). Also walked down to Yasmine (about 5 miles!).

The hotel is situated on a very nice beach and the gardens and pool area truly lovely - all deserted because of the cold!

On New Year's Eve, the Sol put on a spectacular gala evening - great food and atmosphere. We were departing the following late evening (New Year's Day), but really made the most of our last day by going on a great excursion to a wildlife park, followed by an African evening/dinner. Organised by Panorama rep - very good throughout.

You can get a bit 'hassled' in the streets and the Medina, but it is nothing really - a polite 'no thanks' suffices.

Staff - pleasant in the dining room, okay in the bars.

Evening enterainment nothing special (that we could see), but we don't really go for that anyway. Casino quite impressive - in a fabulous room.

All in all, we loved this hotel and Tunisia and had a lovely week.

We would like to go back when the weather is a bit warmer - and maybe try Port el Kantoui, also an All Inclusive - but would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

My boyfriend and I went for a last minute summer holiday and found the Sol Azur to be great.

The rooms were very very clean, as was the swimming pool area and beach.

It was about a 20min leisurely walk into town and on the "quiet" side of Hammamet so not the area where all the bars/clubs are. Still, we weren't there to go out every night and it was perfectly ok and safe for us to go out for a meal or drink and walk back in the night.

The food at the hotel for the evening meal was fantastic, with huge variety and also a Tunisian cuisine night. The breakfast left a little bit to be desired and you had to get in early to get the good stuff, but all in all was entirely reasonable.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The "in-house" entertainment was pretty ordinary, but there were beach activities that were very inexpensive, and also day-trips the hotel could book you on that were great (we did a day trip to Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Tunis).

After reading some of the reports on tunisia i was very worried, but i must say the sol azur and tunisia was great, the staff were always cleaning, breakfast was ok nothing great, dinner on the other hand was fantastic.

This hotel is right on the beach which is beautiful and kept very clean.

The staff there were friendly and enjoyed to have a laugh and a joke.If you do decide to visit this hotel you should visit the outside bar and if moez is there have him make u a cocktail as he makes them the best.

Entertainment was ok better for kids, but there you have use of the bel azur and the royal azur so there was always something for everyone. i would visit this hotel again.

the rooms are a bit dated, but the rest of the hotel was fantastic. all the public areas are spotless and luxurious, the staff are very friendly. the food was of a very good standard very well cooked, plentifull in a very beutifull dining room.

breakfast wasn't so good but you could not go hungry.
the entertainment was not brilliant but the entertainment team were very enthusiastic and did well with thier limited resources.

in the basement there is a nightclub wich i didn't try and also a top class casino where i spent several evenings and had some luck.

the pool was very good and the very good beach is on the doorstep. this is part of a complex and you can use the faccilities of the bel azur and the royal azur wich has very good health club.

outside the hotel things are a bit run down but the people of tunisia are very welcoming and friendly we were a bit dubious about tunisia as we had heard some odd stories about the place but these were unfounded we had a fantastic holiday and would recomend this hotel to anyone.

The 4-star Sol Azur, together with its 3-star partner, the Bel Azur, and the 5-star Royal Azur - you share site and facilities - are absolutely excellent (and, quite separately, excellent value for money) for those wanting an outstanding young-family holiday of the best type, not in the modern way of having overwhelming, child-orientated 'activity', but because the hotels are built of clean, large-scale marble, right on a very good beach, with large, beautifully maintained pools, with friendly staff who are neither obsequious nor surly, with 'normal' buffet meals and unambitious entertainment, in a pretty, garden setting; it's mercifully free of lager louts.

The same factors equal a 'tick' for older couples. The casino may be relevant for some.

We've been back to Hammamet twice but have not equalled the quality of the Azur group; we've taken better (even cheaper) special offers.
