We spent the last night of our DIY Tunisian holiday here. When in Tunisia, often their 4 star hotels would equate to our 3 star hotels, and we thought this hotel, being an international hotel, would be a 4 star. How wrong we were.
We paid extra for a renovated room - and apparently we got one. What it does not say in the info is that the rooms on the second floor were renovated over 5 years ago (in my opinion anyway).
Despite selling them, they have no 3 bedded rooms, and will put an extra bed in to make a triple room. In our first room there was nowhere to put the bed with it's head against the wall, and no headboard on the extra bed. As we didn't want to play "hunt the pillow" in the middle of the night, and were generally extremely disappointed with our room, we got moved to the 9th floor.
Here, although the rooms have not been newly renovated, they have been more recently done up.
Incidentally, of the 4 lifts advertised, only 2 work, and none of them stop on the 9th floor! You need to take the lift up to the 8th floor and leg it up to your room. Pretty spectacular stairway though, when you look down from the top it looks like a vortex!
The hotel location is fantastic, within a minutes walk of pavement cafe's, only 5 minutes from medina etc etc.
The staff are doing their best in a substandard hotel. The house staff and porters are very friendly and helpful.
There was no entertainment at the hotel, but if you like to sit at a pavement cafe in the evening, the location has much to recommend it.
The hot buffet breakfast we had booked and paid for was a joke, only hot food was fried eggs - and a couple of choices of warm rolls.
I would not visit this hotel again.
