Most rooms have excellent views and are very clean. Food is excellent, we have never had a bad meal in all the time we have been going.

Kalkan is a beautiful resort, suitable for couples who are able to walk up and down the steep streets. Sea bathing is best from the different beach club.Palm beach and Mahal will ferry you across the bay in their little boat and you can spend a glorious day sun bathing and swimming in beautiful surroundings. You do have tp pay for the sunbeds but its well worth it for such comfort. The restaurant is also very good and not overpriced. The Thursday market is fun, it is situated in the same road as the mosque and the council offices. If you want to visit the next town,Kas, it is a 20 minute bus ride.

Kalkan still has the highest concentration of restaurants at 252 and so people are spoilt for choice. We used the following:- Doyum, Ilban, Marina, Breeze(twice), Paparazzi, Omars, Ali Babas, Rami's, Odak, Barbaros, Sun Terrace, Cati(Chati) and Kaya. There is something for everyone in respect of entertainment be it Bars, Discos or simply promenading around the shops.

The beach is shingle and so people either go to Beach Club Platforms or go to Patara Beach.

Kalkan is a small harbour town growing at an amazing rate! There is building work going on all over the town but much of it stops during the season so it's not intrusive.
Restaurants radiate from the harbour and through the network of small cobbled streets and alleyways up the hills that lead from the town. It is very pretty and has an upmarket feel, which the traders seem to be playing to.

Many restaurants have roof top terraces that give great views over the harbour at sunset. Food can be expensive but there are also more basic restaurants that serve food just as good as some of the more classy ones. We didn't find that price of dining was much of a guide to quality. Good cheap places were Ali Baba's (opposite the taxis - there are two!), and especially the Merkez. This is a great place to eat and drink and watch the world go by. Staff are highly attentive and pleasant. On top of the Merkez is the Olive Garden - run by the same family, I think. It's much more expensive but very good. Doy Doy by the harbour was also good.

There is only a small beach in Kalkan and it's pebbly so people tend to get one of the free boat taxis to the various Beach Clubs. We preferred the Kalamar and Palm resorts - staff at these two were very friendly and the food was good. You can get a bus to the long beach at Patara but we found it a bit soulless and there is a serious undertow in places. Sadly,a Dutch child was drowned a couple of weeks before our visit. If you're not a strong swimmer - beware!

One or two practical points. Some of the shops in the town can be expensive for "essentials" like soap, shampoo and the essential mosquito repellent. We found Yali supermarket to be compatively cheap- it's on the road out of Kalkan close to where the market sets up.

We had a great holiday in Kalkan and I would consider a return in a few years - it will probably be a major town by then if development continues at its present rate!

Kalkan is a pretty fishing village with a beautiful harbour with mountains behind it. It is very hilly but well worth the walk up and down those hills. There are plenty of nice places to eat , too many to mention. There are lots of shops to browse through , quaint little lanes to go up and down. The harbour is worth walking round and looking at all boats coming and going. There are beach clubs to go too, the beach is pebbly with sunbeds and parasols (fee to be paid but nominal).Kalkan comes to life at night, but it is not rowdy,it is a quiet resort, but enough to keep you occupied. you can sit at a bar with a drinkm and watch the world go by. We really do unwind in Kalkan very easily. The people are very friendly here, food is superb, drinks a plentiful. We did find it had gone up in peice since we last came. If you loke small resorts that are quaint and intersting and has a charm about it wel Kalkan is for you. If you like lots of night clubs then Kalkan is not for you. Restaurants we reccommend are ALTERNITIF KOSK OLD TRADING HOUSE DOY DOY ADEMS (for lunch) FOTO PLACE (pancake lady) ALIBABAS (we call this soup kitchen, turkish quisine at reasonab le price and locals eat here too.) BREEZE (opposite the Samira Hotel). IBO ODAK (for his Shrimp Borek yummy). Yali's and Moonlight Bar for haveing a drink and watching the world go by. if you suffer from mossie bites get there own called OFF, i suffer really bad with mossie bites but i used this and i only got one bite all fortnight. Enjoy your holiday here if you decide to go, i do.

Just returned from our 3rd visit to Turkey having previously visited Olu Deniz and Akyaka. We didnt think Turkey could get any better however Kalkan was by far our favourite. The pedestrianised cobbled streets were a joy to stroll down in the evening whilst deciding which restaurant and roof top terrace with fantastic views to have our evening meal in. The shops were interesting and not tacky. The harbour area was lovely to stroll around. We enjoyed the Gironde and Sofra but there were less expensive places to eat which were just as good. We haven't really ever had a bad meal in Turkey All the restaurants we visited were very clean with exceptional service and wash rooms. (I often get asked by people who havent visited Turkey if it is dirty - definately not, it is cleaner than most of the other countries i have visited. Kas was a little dissappointing but the journedy there is breath taking - i would suggest you visit Kas on a Friday when the market is on so you fill your day otherwise there isnt much to see or do. Patara beach is well worth a visit, when we were there the surf was incredible. Sunbeds and brollies available with a restaurant and loos close by.
By far our favourite place was Kalamar Beach which has attractive batheing platforms, fantastic snorkelling (take your mask) The restaurant was excellent and great service from Darius, Adam and the others made sure the days we spent there were very good. Rob did 6 dives from the Dive club at Kalamar Beach and was lucky enough to see a leather back turtle. Kalamar beach also provide free taxis to and from the beach to your hotel. (get your hotel to phone for you).

Kalkan is a lovely harbour town, spreading out from the old central harbour town and surrounded by mountains. The old town is criss-crossed by paved lanes and home to many fine rooftop restuarants (130+) Shops and traditional style houses. Kalkn is very hilly but the veiws are magnificent. The people friendly and not pushy. There is only one nightclub and that is quite low key. The shops, bars etc. will stay open until the last person leaves but the town is not noisy. Ideal for couples.

Kalkan is a lovely, pretty, traditional turkish harbour town. It is very steep so not for those with any walking difficulties, but there's no rush to go anywhere, so never a problem! During the day there are a lot of cars and mopeds around but the town centre is pedestrianised at night which makes negotiating the steep inclines easier!

There are many roof top restaurants affording wonderful views over the bay, the standard of food is quite astounding and you can have a different experience every night. There are bars with live music and lots of lovely shops and a distinct lack of holiday tat.

Restaurants we tried were Belgins Kitchen (traditional turkish with low tables and big cushions to sit on - not a massive menu but lovely food and marvellous service), Kosk which was a sister restaurant to our hotel. Impeccable service and food to match. Kaptan, harbour side restaurant, wonderful fish dishes. Bospherous, our hotel restaurant, again great service and marvellous food.

It's so pretty here, and so friendly and you don't get hassled from either restaurants or shops, they do invite you in but it's not a pain and there isn't like one person loitering around waiting to snare you into their premises outside.

Highly recommended!

Kalkan is not a resort for people with walking difficulties. The Beach is one of pebbles but a Dolmus ride away is the beautiful Beach at Patara with its golden sands. Resort cleanliness is very good. As for entertainment, Kalkan has the highest concentration of Restaurants per square metre in the whole of Turkey at 130. During our fortnight here, we didn't have one bad meal and that takes some doing. In addition to these, there are also Bars for people to frequent, a few have a Karaoke Night. The thing about this place is the people, so friendly and only too pleased to talk to you. We would come back to Kalkan for this alone, as we made so many good friends during our stay. Market Day is Thursday but is only small, for better choice, Fethiye Market on a Tuesday, 90 mins by Dolmus.

For people going there for the first time, here are the Restaurants we used:- Barbaros, Ali Babas, Marina, Paparazzi, Rami's, Breeze, Bosphorus, Shanghai Chinese(serves Turkish cuisine also), Adams and Sun Terrace.

We have been going to this resort for some years and it is still quite nice, but I must say that there are too many villas going up which has spoilt it.

Also the prices have gone up triple in 2 years since we were last there.
