Here is a day to day account of our holiday.
We visit Dubai often usually twice a year but have never stayed in any of the Jumeirah hotels. As an avid reader and reviewer of Tripadvisor I read your reviews and decided on your hotel. Having stayed previously at the Atlantis, One and Only, Grosvenor House, Movenpick Ibn Buttuta, and other 5 star hotels in
Dubai we thought we had made the correct choice.
How wrong were we. We have never had any problems or reasons to complain to any hotels previously visited in Dubai. As we were Celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary on the 11/06/2018 we had booked several tours and outings. All had to be cancelled. Was looking forward to our trip.
Due to my accident at the hotel we did not leave the hotel during our stay. I found it impossible to walk any distance without being in severe pain. So our special itinerary for our anniversary was not completed. My husband and I were covered in bites. We both had sickness and Diarrhoea. Could this have been caused by exposure to the sewage?
We were not informed by Emirates holidays regarding the work being carried out at the pool area. The noise from the hydraulic drill every day was very disturbing especially as I suffer from Tinnitus and high pitched noises make it unbearable at times.
Visited the pool area twice but could not cope with noise. We sat on balcony but noise was still deafening. I am contacting Emirates Holidays with regards to not being told of work being carried out and will also enclose a copy of my E-Mail to you. Problems with room interrupted our stay.
We had hoped to return to Dubai in September for my 59th birthday but this experience has put me off visiting Dubai.
Due to not leaving the hotel and sightseeing we did not use our camera. Unfortunately when we got home we realised we had left it in hotel room number 330. We were moved to room number 621. I had to phone hotel who informed me they had found our camera in room 330 and we would have to pay postage for its return. It cost us 800 dirham for postage.
Why was the camera not forwarded to us in room 621 when we moved.

Bad smell of sewage in bathroom area coming up drain.
11/6
1am went to use toilet sewage had came up drain between toilet pan and bidet. Floor was flooded with sewerage with leaves and wood.
I slipped on floor twisted and hit my left knee on toilet pan and my right knee off glass shower partition.
12/6
Was in terrible pain and decided to go and report incident at reception.
My husband told me not to make a fuss and wait and see if my knee got better. I did not report the incident that day. My knee was swelling and bruising. I was taking pain killers to try and relive the pain. That evening sitting having a drink in the lounge my husband informed me there was a lizard about 2 inches long, bright green in the shower cubicle when he was showering. Possibly came up with sewage. He did not tell me at the time as he knew I hate lizards and knew I would freak. I did freak out and waiter in lounge called his manager who sent another waiter along to say he would move us to a different room. His quote: One with a nespresso machine!
Did he think he was doing us a favour.
I declined his offer as I felt I should have been dealt with with a duty manager. We went back to our room. I did not sleep but sat up all night on sofa.
13/6
8.45 someone came to our room and said duty manager wanted to see us. Went and spoke with Mr Khalifa telling him what had happened. I was limping badly and could not weight bear on my left knee. He suggested I see paramedic (I did not know any medical person was available at the hotel). Paramedic looked at my knee which by this time was very swollen and bruised. He prescribed declofenic tablets, anti inflammatory cream and put a large tube a grip bandage on my knee. He decided to move us to a suite on the 6th floor. Room number 621 I asked if we would get access to the club lounge and was told no only the room.
14/06
My husband and I are now covered in large insect bites.
15/6
Hobbled down to breakfast came back and bathroom was flooded. All my toiletries were soaked. My perfume boxes were sodden.
Phoned and housekeeping arrived 20 mins later with engineer.
Copper sink had a crack in it and water escaping from pipe.
Engineer returned a few hours later and replaced the sink.
As I was in a lot of pain we did not leave room.
16/6
Got up in the morning used toilet and it would not flush.
Phoned housekeeping who sent an engineer an hour later.
Engineer fixed the problem!
My husband has now been unwell all night with sickness and diarrhoea.
17/6
Used the toilet today same problem would not flush.
Phoned again another engineer arrived and fixed the same problem.
Husband still unwell this morning. Worried as he is diabetic and can't keep a sip of water down. Later that night I began to feel unwell. Went for dinner at 9 pm and had to leave. Same problem as my husband sickness and diarrhoea.
18/6
Both feeling a bit better today. I went to reception for a copy of my bill.
Mr Khalifa duty manager was there. He looked at me put his head down and did not acknowledge me. Did not have the decency to ask how my injury was.
