We arrived at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay after driving from Anaheim. Although early, we were able to check in upon arrival. Slightly disappointed with the room allocated to us (especially as we booked 11 months in advance!). We had no balcony (most rooms do have one) and our view was the car park. However, we decided not to make a fuss as we were not planning on spending any significant time in the room.
The room came equipped with 2 queen beds, air con, flat screen tv, safe, iron/board, hairdryer and a fridge (stocked with water which you had to pay for - $4.95 per bottle). The room was small and there was nowhere near enough storage for our clothes.
There were computers to use, located on our floor just above reception - however internet usage was chargeable.
The hotel has a gym and spa which we did not use.
The pool area was nice although crowded and guests appeared to reserve their sunbeds with towels early in the morning but not actually use them until lunchtime or later (main culprits - the Americans). This meant if you arrived at the pool any later than 10am you struggled to find a free sunbed. Pool towels are provided. Guests sitting around the pool are required to wear wristbands to prove that they are paying guests - I didnt like having to do this and couldn't see the point. The pool area can only be accessed by inserting your room key into the slot at the gates to the pool area. The same applies to the restrooms located near the pool. I found to pool to be very cold. There are water slides which keep the kids entertained and also a hot tub. Unfortunately, and rather offputting, the main pool had to be closed on one afternoon due to excrement having to be removed!!
Dining facilities are minimal. There is the Red Marlin restaurant which we did not try but understand to be expensive. There is the SWIM lounge located next to the pool for lunch or dinner but the menu is very limited and doesn't really cater for children - however, the food we did try was very good. Just along the Boardwalk there is Einsteins bagel shop which most people used for their breakfast. If you like bagels then you're fine - if not, tough! There is also a shop onsite for souvenirs, soft drinks, confectionery, etc. This is best place to buy your water as it is half the price of the stuff provided in your room fridge.
The hotel is in a nice location by the marina, however you do need a car to get anywhere. Sea World is very close by (less than 5 mins drive) and the hotel provide a water taxi service to Sea World. The nearest beach is around a 20 minute walk away.
The hotel was OK all in all but we would probably stay elsewhere if we visited San Diego again.
