I cannot recommend the Hotel Solamar highly enough. It is probably my best every hotel experience. Staying as part of our Honeymoon, we arrived quite late at night where the lovely man at reception welcomed us by name when we walked in the door and immediately upgraded us. Our room was amazing with the biggest spa tub I have ever seen! Within 15 minutes of check in, we were brought chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne to enjoy. The room was full of quirky features, which I believe are standard in the Kimpton Hotel chain and I fell in love with the animal print dressing gown.
Throughout our stay, the staff could not have been more helpful and seemed genuinely interested to help - nothing false here. 5pm is "wine hour" in the lobby when you can sample a complimentary glass or two and relax in the spacious lounge areas. The hotel is well located in the Gaslamp District with plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Parking at the hotel is expensive but there's a car park directly opposite with a fairly competitive overnight rate which we used without any problems. We were also given a complimentary breakfast, the only time we ate in the hotel, and it too was fantastic.
Didn't have time to lie out but we had a look at the pool deck and it looked like a lovely place to chill out in the sunshine. Genuinely, the only complaint I have about this hotel is that I couldn't stay any longer. We will definitely be back.
