After years of researching Florida we finally decided to book an alocation on arrival. We read review after review on accomodation and it became increasingly clear that unless we were willing to pay for the top hotels, the accomodation standards were below par.
We booked with airtours and I have to say the whole holiday exceeded expectations!!
We flew out on the a33o, lots of leg room at the back in the middle row and there are about 8 toilets on the plane, you go downstairs to use them! This worked quite well...no smells wafting up the ailse and the ques were not too bad either.
We opted not to pay for the meal, so imagine our suprise when we were given an in-flight meal both going out and coming home!! All in all not a bad start to the holiday:))
We found out we were staying at the Travelodge Maingate East on arrival, I cannot comment on the transfers as we hired a car with Dollar, this was so simple to do, no complications and we even upgraded the car to a Dodge Charger for a discounted price.
On arrival to the hotel we were not happy with our room , the lady at the desk imediatley moved us to a much better room which had a Fridge, Microwave and view of the disney nightly fireworks. It seems that half of the rooms in the hotel have been renovated and the other half have been left.
We had 2 large beds, table & Chairs, bedside cabinate, closet, set of drawers with mirror.
Housekeeping came every day and left clean towels, soap, made the beds etc and what appeared to be head of housekeeping would double check all the rooms had been cleaned at the end of the day.
Also shower gel & shampoo dispenser, coffe maker, hairdryer and safe in the bathroom which was nice and spacious.
We had a balcony which I know does not sound like much but when most of the hotels/motels you see have the balconies were everyone can walk past your window it was nice to have that bit of privacy.
Shower pressure was excellent, like a power shower!!
The rooms are by no means luxurious and the decor is somewhat drab but the room was clean and more than met all our needs.
We spent a few days around the swimming pool area which only really got busy at the weekends. There was always fresh towels available at the pool. Jacuzi was lovely in the evenings. The bar is just next to the pool at barmaids were so friendly and hospitable, Happy Hour is between 4pm-6pm then 11pm-1am, we enjoyed a few pitchers of beer then!!
There is a small shop containing drinks, chocolate etc, like a newsagents withing the hotel and drinks machines on most floors. We also discoved the hotel had washing and drying facilites which we made use of.
We never ate at the hotel even though there is an inhouse Pizza Hut, oh and McDonalds (with cream leather seating, plazma TV and flowers on the tables) is right next door!!
The staff on the front desk were always really helpful, however the ones on the Disney Desk were generally unhelpful especially if you asked for map directions!
We plan to go to Florida again and without a doubt would stay here again, location was ideal: Kissimme Old Town was directly across the road, the whole area appears to have been renovated as all the walkways are new with lots of crossings, we did not need to drive from the hotel to somewhere eat or for entertainment, you could walk to it all.
Lots of places to eat down the road.....highly recomend Bennigans where we went most days and there was a Publix supermarket, Walgreens and other various shops 10 minutes down the road we could walk to as well
We were so near to International Drive so it was easy to get to and slap bang in the middle of Kissimme!!
