Stayed at the Edison Hotel with friends who were in New York for the 1st time. After reading some of the reviews I was a little anxious about our stay but we found that everything we wanted, cleanliness 100%,staff 100% and location 50mts from Times Square and right in the heart of the theatre district was perfect. I and our friends have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Great location for exploring New York. Hotel foyer was spotless, marble reception area sparkled. However, the sofas in the lounge area were drab, very worn & grubby. Generally the hotel was clean & tidy but the walls needed re-decorating. The room was small & you slept in the dip of the matress. Hairdryers gave out no heat at all.
Asked the staff on reception if we could book a minibus to take us to the airport, but they said ask the doorman to hail you a taxi ($70-100)then we saw a desk opposite the hotel gift shop where we could book a minibus ($50).
The cafe next door was very basic & crampt.
Glad we only used this hotel to shower & sleep.

This hotel was just what we wanted, a base in the centre of manhatten for us to use to sleep in only. The rooms & hall ways are in need of refurbishment although Reception/Lobby & lounge area are nice. We had room only beacuse we didnt want to be tied down to eating in the same place all the time.
The hotel was very clean & we had breakfast a few times in the cafe edison which is just off reception, quick & convenient to start the day. They rush you in & back out though, which didnt bother us because we just wanted to get out & explore.
Location is just what we needed, right in the centre of manhatten & 2mins from times square.
We were on the 3rd floor & was quite quiet, I thought the noise of the roads below would keep me awake but I had no problems. Although you can hear the lift "bing" when someone gets in & out! Would visit the hotel again as it makes an excellent base - not the sort of place you could spend much time in during the day though.

We visited The Edison in December 2005 for our 10th wedding anniversary and enjoyed it very much. However, the rooms although refurbished are not too great and the hotel looks like it could do with updating.
The location is excellent - just off Times Square/Broadway, so walking up to central park, across to fifth avenue and down to Soho, Greenwich village all easy.
There is no real entertainment - a small bar, which gets very crowded with locals after work and theatre goers, but I guess this is a good sign.
The Cafe Edison is good for cheap meals, but service quite stern.
