I visited New York for a study trip and it is quite obvious that they specifically allocate rooms! My stay was less than satisfactory. This was due to cockroaches in the bathroom!, blood on the radiator, the radiator squealing all night, tissue blocking the window to stop the draught. The wardrobe smelt disgusting therefore did not hang clothes in there, crumbling masonry in the stairway.
The location of the hotel was not bad as it was very close to the subway and close to shops and restaurants but this was the only good thing about the hotel!
Hotel staff were also less then helpful!
I would not stay at this hotel again and for the money I paid there must be better hotels out there!!!!!
New York is fantastic though, don

The hotel Elysee in New York was very quirky.
There were antiques in the rooms and the staff were also very helpful. In the afternoon complimentory wine and snacks where served this was really welcome after a hard days shopping. The monkey bar downsatirs was very dark in the evening and was packed out.
When we checked into our room we had wine and chocolates waiting for us and a chargeable minibar which wasn't too expensive as mini bars go.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone, its welcoming charming and worth a see.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last month when we went on our honeymoon. We wanted a base to explore New York and quite simply that is what we got.
We found that all we needed was a clean, friendly hotel to sleep and use as a base. The hotel was clean, tidy and we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The lady at the concierge desk was particularly helpful and stocked tickets to all major tourist attractions which prevented us from having to wait in long queues! She also phoned cabs for us when we didn't want to do the subway. The subway (94th St) was right on our doorstep but we found taxis to be very cheap and a much quicker alternative, especially if you are unsure about walking about at night.
The hotel was a little far away from the centre of Manhattan and when we return we will stay at a hotel closer to the city centre - only because of location because the hotel itself is ideal in every other aspect.
Please note that a harbour cruise is a must for all visitors to New York. We did one on the last night of our stay and it was by far the highlight of our trip. The sights were breathtaking and you get to see things that you wouldn't be able to see on foot. It takes in all the tourist attractions and brings out the romantic side to anyone!!!
Overall, we thought that the hotel was very good and well worth the money and we can't wait to visit New York again - it is addictive for sure.

This hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in it is just plain filthy, there were coakroaches climbing the wall.
The bathroom was filthy dirty with scum around tap fitting you could write your name in the venetian blinds as there was so much dust on them. The telephone did not work there were paper cups under the bed, the quilt cover had burn marks in it.
The lifts when they worked smelt of urine, sprinkler sytems were blocked with paper towels it was the only hotel you would wipe your feet on the way out. Just do not go there, there are much better for the money in New York, and by the way the staff spoke perfect English when they took your money, but when something was wrong they only spoke Spanish.
Just do not go there I had a part refund from my tour operator because the manager refused to comment that says something, do not entertain this place there is definitely no quality in this place!

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel in March 04 and was pleasantly suprised. We had read very mixed reviews and weren't the Ritz! When we got to the hotel the staff were polite, friendly and very efficient. On being given our room key we were directed to our double room. It included an ensuite bathroom & a little kitchen area complete with coffe perculator! The TV was massive and had a good selection of cable channels. There was a heater in the room which got very hot, a godsend as 3 feet of snow fell on the city in the space of a couple of hours whilst we were there. Hotel corridors could do with a lick of paint as looking a little worn, but all in all it was a very cheap(in New York terms!), clean and convenient hotel. There is a Subway station (94th st) right outside the front door, with trains running approx every 5 mins. You can get to nearly all the main tourist attractions (including Times sq, Empire state building, madison sq gardens etc) from one of the lines at 94th st station.
We are going back to New York early next year, and will definately be returning to this hotel.
