What a bargain we had. Bed and Breakfast in this 4* hotel for £49pp per night with a free upgrade to a premium room on arrival. Can't fault it!
A lovely large foyer awaited our arrival but the check in desk was in a small area of its own. The man behind the desk was polite enough but seemed nervous- not sure whether he was new. Anyway, he informed us that we'd been upgraded so all was well.
Large room with all the facilities the previous reviewer listed plus a small lounge area with double bed settee, table and lamp. We had a good view of the castle from the window.
Breakfast was plentiful and varied with anything from cereals, fruit, toast etc to a full English or even kippers cooked to order.
The carpets were threadbare in places but would need quite an investment to replace them as they were obviously of good quality. The only other gripe I have is that this hotel is boiling. Luckily we had good air conditioning in the room because before we worked it out the perspiration was starting to pour off me.
I would definitely stay here again at the price we paid but don't think I'd pay the full price of £149pp.

Check in was smooth & efficient and 2 hours before time! Reception staff were welcoming and knowledgeable. First impressions were excellent with an opulent foyer. Two lifts one with disabled facilities, ensured smooth access to rooms.
Rooms were spacious, with ample wardrobe and drawer space. There was a TV, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, toiletries and tea making facilities. The bed was comfortable, but quilts & pillows were flat & left a lot to be desired. The bathroom was a decent size with loads of hot water for bath/shower, & a heated towel rail.
We didn't eat at the hotel, as we found it expensive, but drinks were an average price. For a 4* hotel we found the decoration poor, with all corridor walls painted magnolia, and not a print or painting to be seen. Once a hotel to be coveted, because of its rugby connections, it's now just a step or two up from an Ibis/ Mercure chain.
Would we stay here again - yes - at the price we paid!
