I wish to alert people that the cruise itinerary for the Colourful Coasts on Thomson Destiny on 12th November '10 has been reversed.Thomsons made this change on 11th August'10.I discovered this change by chance on cruisedeals website. As yet I am still waiting for written confirmation from Thomsons about this change. The itinerary change will also result in 5.5hours less time in Funchal.Hope the new itinerary change suits everybody who has already booked on this cruise.I am trying to get my £300 deposit back from Thomsons,as we only booked the cruise because of the itinerary in the Thomsons brochure.

My Mum and I booked the Mediterranean Renaissance cruise departing from Palma Majorca. This was my second cruise and I enjoyed it more than the 1st! The ship is a little tired in appearance and our cabin on deck 4 a little small-especially the shower.Sailed with Royal Caribbean in 2009, very grand, but not nearly as much fun! The staff made you feel like one of the family! We dined in the Seven Seas restaurant each night on the late sitting at 8.45, which meant no need to rush around getting ready after a long day ashore. The service from our waiters: Carl, Rambo & Angel was fantastic. Being ladies alone we were placed on a table with other single ladies, this was lovely and we had so many laughs! Our cabin steward Mohammed was a little star, he even helped to fix my hair straightners! We had no engine noise on deck 4, some others on deck 2 said thay did not sleep at all, so 4 and above is the best option. We had an outside cabin, so lovely views at sea. The day at sea was very rough, sailing through the Gulf of lions as the captain called it, force 10 gales and much rocking and rolling about for around 24 hours! Luckily we do not suffer with sea sickness, although many people were very ill.The entertainment was great, and Kev Orkian from Britain's got talent appeared twice, he was hilarious! Kane Davis the cruise director and his team worked so hard to deliver high standard shows each night, which were fun.We booked 2 excursions ashore,Barcelona and Rome, both were fantastic value for money compared to Royal Caribbean prices. All in all,if you want good food, exceptional staff and a week in the med on board a little tired but spotless ship, give it a go!

We had a fabulous cruise, (Jewels of the Med) and found that the Destiny is the friendliest ship we have ever sailed on! Cabins however are atrociously small, but we had heard this before we booked and so just had to make the best of it. (Cabins on the Celebration are far superior). Once you accept this, put it behind you and get on with enjoying everything else the ship has to offer. Food was very good, both in the buffet and in the Seven Seas. Pre dinner drinks , either in the Sky bar, or The Clipper was always enjoyable......
noticed a few little cost cutting exercizes by Thomson, in comparison to previous cruises......eg no canapes at captains cocktail reception, and no cool drink awaiting you when you waited for the tender boat on the quayside.....small points but it was those little touches which made Thomsons excellent....
We have sailed on much larger so called superliners in the past......and alhough the Destiny cannot come near the quality of the decor or the cabins......the whole experience on the Destiny more than makes up for that!

We have just returned from 7 days on Destiny doing the jewels of the Med. It was a lovely cruise with everything great EXCEPT the cabins they were awful. I knew before we went that the cabins would be small but what we didn't know is how dreadful the beds would be. My husbands bed had a huge dip in the middle. We did complain and the stewardess tried her hardest. She managed to find a foam mattress and put blankets underneath to try and support it.We did not sleep well and so this spilt the holiday. The staff tried to help but they could do anymore. At the very least new matressess would be a good investment. Everything else was great but we would not sail on this ship again. This has let down the cruise. The staff, entertainment and food were first class

Not so much of a review as a warning. In the Seven Seas if you walk down the right hand side on the carpet you come to a section not carpeted. It is highly polished but non-slip supposedly, and you have to cross this section to get back onto carpet to reach the restaurant extention. The section is where the food is brought out from the galley, and empties returned, and sometimes there is spillage. My wife slipped on this floor and even though we couldn't find anything on the floor we think she may have caught her shoe on the residue of something as this was the only way she could have slipped. She badly injured her leg and whilst the doctor and the treatment she received was very good, the safety officer was a bit of a prat. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

This was our second cruise on Destiny.Everything went to plan on time. The staff/crew/holiday reps, were outstanding as before. The excursions were varied to suit all types, wich we took full advantage of.
Compared with newer bigger ships the Destiny does appear a little underdoggish, but she has an atmosphere and a much louder horn....Sail On!

My party of four had a great time on The Thomson Destiny as we cruised around the east Caribbean from 10th to 24th Jan 2010.

Three of us were first time cruisers, so we didn't really know what to expect, but we all had a fantastic experience and great value for money.

I'll start with the only negatives I can think of; Yes, the cabins are small, but you only need them to sleep/get showered in/get changed in, we found them adequate. Also it's true that some of the tours sold by Thomson can be bought cheaper in some ports, though not all. If you want to have a lazy day at a beach just find a local taxi and save money. You will save money on island tours too, though the quality will probably not match that offered by Thomson.

Otherwise we couldn't fault anything. Cleanliness was impeccable throughout. Food excellent. All staff very friendly, efficient and helpful. The entertainment was excellent too, something was happening all the time. The evening shows in the Can Can Lounge in particular were of a much higher standard than any of us could of expected, the show-team are a highly talented group of young people and their shows were very popular. We had lots of fun in the Oklahoma Lounge and the casino too.

The cashless system on board worked very well, we were all very happy with the all-inclusive drinks option, which was being offered free when we booked.

Something else that should be mentioned is the fantastic atmosphere on board, the crew do as much as possible to make sure that everbody has a good time. In several ports there were huge cruise ships with state-of-the art facilities berthed alongside, but they somehow seemed a bit sterile compared to the Destiny, often their passengers would look across as if wondering why we all looked so much happier than them. Don't go on The Destiny expecting a posh cruise, go if you prefer a more informal, relaxed and fun kind of place and you will not be disappointed.

Just returned from a two week cruise,on meeting the ship was impressed as this was my first time crusing. I was very disappointed with the cabins as they are very small and lack of space for two adults to move around, the lack of storage space and the general appearance of the room looked old and tired. The bedding and bath towels are old and worn. In general the ship is old and needs updating. All the communial areas are clean and well maintained.
Food was in plentyful my only complain was the food lacked tast. On the only night you are able to taste the flavours of the caribbean they had jerk chicken which not only did not look or taste like it, infact it was a stewed chicken. The main restaurant was clean and well presented but felt there was a lack of choice so one ate in the Lido Bar as there was a better selection, but the lido bar didn't convert well for evening dining.
The majority of the staff where very friendly and very helpful. Any complaints or problems where delt with by the reception very well, with a follow up call after to confirm the problem had been resolved.
I did not get much out of the on board entertainment, i felt it was mainly geared for the older passengers and having spent two weeks on ship it was very repetative. The fact that i was on a ship sailing around the carribbean, besides the ports, hot weather and carribbean night, i might as well had been at butlins. I did not feel the ship gave the passsengers the atmospher or the feeling that they where on a carribbean cruise.
In general i made the most of it and did enjoy myself our group was of mixed age from 70 to 40 but we felt the ship mostly catered for the elderly. It would have been nice to have the disco start at 10.00 onwards and have music for all ages. i would never sail on another thomson crusie ship as i did not feel it was value for money ship old and tired.
