Thanks for that info. Already booked for Albufeira but will certainly keep a note of this website for future. Had a very quick look just now and was impressed. Also its a very easy to use website.

Shows how desperate everyone is to fill rooms. After a bad summer a bad winter will be a great concern around here.

Some friends of mine have secured a long stay deal for January and February 2010 that works out at £6 a night.

Shame Cubsur as I think the Algarve is a lovely destination - especially if you hire a car and get about. :tup

I agree wholeheartedly but visitor numbers are reckoned to have been down 14% this summer and those who were here were not spending. There is a lot of over-capacity and several hotel projects in the area have stopped in mid-construction over the last year or so. A major resort complex of around 300 units, just down the road from me, was closed down by the local council for breaching planning regulations. These are all bad signs.

A poor winter in terms of visitor spend could be the final straw for many bars and restaurants. Recovery could take a long time.

Meanwhile, yes, £10 a night and why not take advantage. But do go out every now and then and spend the money you've saved on rooms.

Hi Cubby, i don't mind doing my bit, we shall be out twice before the end of march and we eat out every night at several local small Portuguese resturaunts and have done so for the last twenty years. We used to stay with our old next door neighbours who emigrated some 10 years ago but now like the other correspondents we stay wherever, this year and the last 2 years we only paid 42 euros per week for a self catering apartment (winter rates ). On a different note have you been into Guia of late to see if the " chicken" has landed :rofl :rofl :rofl .

Good for you.

I was last in Guia a fortnight ago and it wasn't there then. I am going that way early next week (need to go to Leroy Merlin) so will report accordingly!

I was in Guia on Wednesday. Some work is taking place at the roundabout but no chicken has yet taken roost.
