mattb22,

You might want to look at some of the Red sea destinations for some of the best snorkelling in the world (I'm off diving there in March!). While you probably won't get secluded beaches, you'll have coral reefs on the door step of most hotels with tropical fish species surrounding you. It might be a little on the warm side in our summer months so a t-shirt is recommended while snorkelling to avoid a burnt back. There's some good snorkelling to be had around the Balearics and many of the Greek islands as well, but the Red Sea wins hands down in terms of marine life. If you wanted to push your budged, the Caribbean Islands offer secluded bays and fantastic marine life. I've litterally had a whole bay to myself at times in St Lucia and would be out for 2 or 3 hours at a time! The best place i've snorkelled has to be Mauritius, the diving was fantastic as well.

Not to put you off the sea snakes are not common

but if you like snorkelling then try Cyprus -- it can be cheaper than the Red Sea and the water in June is actually warmer I've just come back so I do know 29metres down it was still 23 degrees

BUT if you enjoy snorkelling that much I can suggest

1/ get to Aldi and ask if they still have some Traveller underwater cameras left (good beginners waterproof camera)

2/ have a Discover Scuba Dive - you only go down 4 metres with a proper instructor AFTER a full briefing if you enjoy that then learn to dive -- Cyprus dive shops are mostly British run too anyway most Cypriots speak English and you actually wonder if they are English they're that good
