Hey All,
Just wondering if you could help to advise me on this.
Me and my partner went to Lanzarote and did some snorkelling on jablillo beach last april and loved it and spent most of the week doing it.
Now I was just wondering if anyone could suggest for summer 2010 any places with beautiful private/secluded beaches that are also good for snorkelling. The secluded beaches would also need to be within a reasonable distance to the hotel as we are both still too young to hire cars abroad.
Oh and one more thing we wernt looking for something too exotic as I will be a student at the time so will have too limit my budget, we would not like to spend above £600 for 14 nights not too fussed on board basis.
Could anyone suggest anywhere from experience perhaps.
Thanks Matt
You might want to look at some of the Red sea destinations for some of the best snorkelling in the world (I'm off diving there in March!). While you probably won't get secluded beaches, you'll have coral reefs on the door step of most hotels with tropical fish species surrounding you. It might be a little on the warm side in our summer months so a t-shirt is recommended while snorkelling to avoid a burnt back. There's some good snorkelling to be had around the Balearics and many of the Greek islands as well, but the Red Sea wins hands down in terms of marine life. If you wanted to push your budged, the Caribbean Islands offer secluded bays and fantastic marine life. I've litterally had a whole bay to myself at times in St Lucia and would be out for 2 or 3 hours at a time! The best place i've snorkelled has to be Mauritius, the diving was fantastic as well.
As much coral reef as you might want to explore (Mauritius)

Yellowtail Snapper (Cuba)
Angel Fish (Dominican Republic)
Spotted Sea Snake (St Lucia)

but if you like snorkelling then try Cyprus -- it can be cheaper than the Red Sea and the water in June is actually warmer I've just come back so I do know 29metres down it was still 23 degrees
BUT if you enjoy snorkelling that much I can suggest
1/ get to Aldi and ask if they still have some Traveller underwater cameras left (good beginners waterproof camera)
2/ have a Discover Scuba Dive - you only go down 4 metres with a proper instructor AFTER a full briefing if you enjoy that then learn to dive -- Cyprus dive shops are mostly British run too anyway most Cypriots speak English and you actually wonder if they are English they're that good
