Well I wanted too ???
I don't know if I'm getting older and more bad tempered or are all Goan taxi drivers getting worse?
The bunch at the Santiago Hotel in Baga are all ,or most are just crazy and my friends and I had a few disputes with them . Finally ,one morning as we were travelling at a rediculous speed on the wrong side of the road, overtaking police cars and lines of other traffic, including an elephant, scooters coming the opposite way were pulling into the side of the road to avoid us , I cracked.
Anyway I told him to slow down and treat us with respect before we had accident, and if he didn't I would not pay him.He told us he was a good driver but I eventually made him undestand how bad he was and that if he drove the way he was in England I would be the first to lock him up and throw away the key.
At our destination I paid him and went to the beach. He followed us and apologised and begged me not to report him to the hotel as he would be suspended for two weeks.
Well at least I obtained a nice little bit of information and from then on we were treated with respect. If you have the same problem with your hotel taxi drivers its worth considering.
Its back to the scooter next year.
I noticed a few of them had been supping a the ol kings, one guy was all over the road and I had my son in the back. not happy
we had a few crazy ones but once i screamed at them to slow the **** down, they soon got the message.
Perhaps I did fail to mention the air was blue, but there were no ladies present
lol there weren't when i was i the taxi either
I was once offered a taxi and, on agreeing a price, the guy said his friend would be driving and he would come too. No probs i said. After a couple of minutes I realised he was giving him a driving lesson!! When I stopped laughing I asked him if he was and the guy said yes because he is only used to driving in the Himalaya's where they dont have many rules!!!!
That would explain a lot then! Never ceases to amaze me when I clamber unscathed from one of these deathtraps - I am surprised there's not more major acccidents involving tourists......
We usually find one without an obvious death wish shortly after arrival, but the first few journeys can be eventful. Good to know the hotels have a 'policing' system in place - probably best used to negoiate with rather than have the guy banned for 2 weeks.
