There were times when we couldn't use our usual shack even when we were on the beach for 9:30 as people were pre-booking them the day before when they left the beach. We didn't have any problem finding beds at other shacks though so I wouldn't worry about it. I did see more people than usual though laying on towels on the beach this year. In a way it was a good thing for us as it made us use different places. Have a great holiday.

Hi BrenLiz

Are they restricting them to 10 beds everyday? :(

They did seem to be when we were there at Christmas. Were not as strict on the Sunday as the Police don't seem to be around much on a Sunday.

Oh no, fingers crossed they have relaxed it by the time I go on 19th Feb.

BrenLiz...I also saw a lot of people lying on towels last year. They all appeared to be Russians that didn't want to spend money in the shacks and they also had brought their own beer / food.

The ten bed rule is being enforced daily. Every other day in the papers is a story about beds being confiscated. A lot of the shacks are sticking to only 10 beds as they don't want the beds to be confiscated!!!

Have to say it was a pain one min you were on the next off, some shacks are allowed more but not alot and we also found they were saving beds for the long stayers that dont seem to spend as much money in them as others that are only there a few weeks but there you go thats there way of thinking.

Yes Donna, it is true. We have used the Bistro for 11 years, most days for up to 2 months. Went two weeks ago. There was not 1 bed out. Went to the place next door cafe something, and it is fabulous building new this year, proper bricked and tiled toilets, better than ones at home. Food is good, and we were made to feel very welcome. We now stay there, in fact just got back from there. I didn't think there was life after Bistro, but there certainly is. :tup
All the shacks have not so many beds as usual, but you should be okay. They all have to be well back from the sea as well. I think that's maybe a safety issue( don't think) from all the bloomin' boats bananas and bikes!!! :banghead:

Sounds like we may have to find a shack with more beds then this year as there are 5 of us going. :( Goangirl did Bistro have no beds out most days or was it occasionally when the police were around, I keep on hearing different stories that it's everyday.

They do have beds out now, Donna, but not as many as they used to! You never know what the situation will be from one day to the next! Not so many beach sellers either.

Thanks Goangirl, we were the same and used to use Squeeze for 8 years and then changed to Bistro last year because it was too crowded at Squeeze we really enjoyed it last year and I was so worried when I heard that there were only 10 beds at the shacks as I am a sun worshiper and need my sunbed :rofl

Can't you buy cheap chair type beds out there?

Most the shacks affected in Candolim are close to the main car park where the police can easily walk to and confiscate the beds and umbrellas ;the
further you are away from that area the less problems you have as its very hard to get trucks that close to the shacks. we are about 15 mins walk
from the carpark towards Calangute and most of the shacks have at least 30 pairs of sunbeds out most days, and get the alarm when or if the bed police get near Only twice in nearly 4 months ,then you see them all take the sunbeds round the back out of site. this has happened for many years and is a way of life now .Im sure you will all find beds and shades. :sun2 :sun2

Thanks Split, that's made me feel a bit happier now, was not looking forward to laying on the sand and looking like a doughnut :rofl

It is a bit of a pain though if you are one of the people who get turfed off their bed for an hour while the police have disappeared as happened to us both this year and last. But as Split says you soon find shacks where there is no problem and even if I had to lay on the sand I would go back as long as the shacks as there, never would I go back to the hotel to eat at lunchtime if this is what the hotels are after. I would take something down to the beach to eat at lunchtime as we do in Greece and Turkey.

Yes I agree Brenliz, and i forgot to mention that i was talking about part of the Candolim area, Im sure that some of the other areas Baga and Calangute
are different again. :tup
