Hi Princess

We knew about the attack, the same day that it happened. Although reports vary, it appears that it was a 21 year old worker (possibly a Shot Girl) who finished work at 4am, and depending on who you believe, was either followed home from work, or she was attacked in her flat (maybe both are true?) Again, according to the "Magalluf whispers" the attacker was either Roumanian or Morrocon. She lived in flats above the Green Parrot, not far from the Guadaloupe.

She is no longer in hospital, and various reprts suggests she has gone home to UK.

Whatever the circumstances were that led up to the attack, it was utterly abhorent, and the Police presence on the streets that evening (and since) suggest that the Police are trying very hard to catch him, or they are having a show of strength.

However, I will say that I have walked home from my Bar 300 times a year for the past 5 years, at various times ranging from midnight to 6am, and I have never, ever, ever felt threatened, intimidated or unsafe. I have, on various occasions, both whilst walking home, and in front of our bar seen a variety of incidents, normally between drunken friends and Boyfriends / Girlfriends, and the most recent was about 4 nights ago when a boy (maybe 20 years old) slapped a girl across the face so hard, he knocked her off her feet. I crossed the road to confront him, and within 20 seconds I was joined by the owner of Hollywoods Bar, and the security man from Benny Hill's as well as my own Bar Man who stands about 6' 5". The boy had a bottle in his hand, but backed away, and it turned out the girl was his own sister!!!

Now I will relate to you a story that happened outside my bar at 3am this morning. We were all but closed, had a bout 6 people in the Bar, and I'd gone outside for a breath of fresh air, and sat on our terrace, with my Leeds United Shirt on. A young lad, who's had plenty to drink was walking past, and he stopped to tell me he was from Swansea, but supported Cardiff City, and we had a bit of friendly banter. It was a warm evening, and he was carrying his T shirt - therefore was bare-chested. A young girl, maybe 18 or 19 was walking past ( I think she's been to Pirates) and her friend had obviously "pulled", and was with a boy, but she stopped and said to this young Welsh lad "You're fit" and started rubbing her hands over his chest. Within seconds they were "snogging" (do people still use that word) and within minutes he's asked her which Hotel she was staying in, and he was giving her a piggy back, back to her Hotel.

Now the rest of the story we'll probably never know, but that girl had been drinking, but was not drunk, and whether the girl was flirting with him, having a laugh, or was looking for what he was obviously looking for was unclear from such a brief encounter, but that is where the problem lies.

Although these attacks are rare, it nearly always turns out to be foreign men (and I mean foreign to both Britain and Spain) involved, and the Police were already having a big clamp down on Lucky Lucky Men and other unlicenced traders from Morrocco and Eastern Europe - with road blocks at the entry points to Magalluf, and most of the LL men getting "knicked" 3 or 4 times a night, and their contraband confiscated.

There are such a huge number of young people in Magalluf at this time of year that it really is surprising that these incidents are so rare. It says a lot that this girl was comfortable enough to be prepared to walk home at that time of night, but it seems pretty clear that she had been targetted, and in 5 years I can only bring to mind one other similar attack, and that was a young drunk girl walking home alone along the beach at 5am.

Clearly common sense should apply - make sure you know where your friends are, and they know where you are. Taxis are so cheap, if you need to go home alone at such an unearthly hour, then do so by Taxi. If you feel threatened, then go to the nearest Bar, or even a family, or even a group of lads. Despite what some people may think, the majority of young people are decent kids, just having a good time, and if you need help, it won't be far away.

This isn't a defensive posting, nor am I trying to promote Magalluf - this is an honest, from the heart posting from someone who spends all his days and nights in the centre of Magalluf, and the father of 4 daughters, one of whom has just gone home today, after having an enjoyable, and trouble free week staying with us.

Cheers

Adam

If its the same girl I heard about, she was attacked after finishing her bar shift sometime after 4am.

I have just come back from Palmanova/magaluf and at no time did I feel unsafe. In fact I felt a lot safer than I do in England.

You will be fine in Magaluf

hi little princess, i have arrived back from magaluf today with my wife a 2 kids, in the week that we stayed the only trouble that we heard of was from a couple of groups of lads who were staying in the jungla aparthotel, but the security guards soon put a stop to it. we never felt threatened or intimidated even if we had different football shirts on, from the groups of lads walking round. just go there and enjoy yourself but stay with your friends when walking home. there r plenty of all girl groups walking around as well.

Great advice goodfellows, I've been to Magaluf the past two years and found it alot safer than the UK and despite the drunks most people were friendly. The streets are so lively as well it is hard to end up somewhere quiet where you could feel threatened.

People seem to have it out for these 18/30 resorts and I don't agree with the whole following women to have sex, but if you are into that thing and want to catch something, so be it. But in all honesty the place is buzzing and full of all types of people from across Britain and of all ages.

Don't be put off by one incident. In Birmingham where I live, I'm sure there is probably a stabbing a night and plenty of places were people hang out waiting to rob you.

Magalauf is superb, enjoy it because I'm gutted I can't be there with my friends next week and I'd happily go there again and again!

A night out in Magaluf is as safe as a night out in Liverpool or Manchester, just have your wits about you the same as you would at home and you will be fine.
