Hi there(doepsmc)
Don't you feel like you're being judgemental?
For a start we use other hotels twice in the week for a couple of hours so our son can play in a pool with a slide if ours haven't got one otherwise we keep to our own pool.
We never hog the sun beds as we don't feel its fair to do that either but you wouldn't know that would you!
We spend most of our week doing the day trips and appreciating the beautiful country we're lucky enough to be visiting.
We're not chavs..we're rockers actually.
And i'm a forty year old mother of four origionally five.
My children are 9-22yrs and 1 works the other 2 work and do college and uni.
And i work full time as well as my husband.
I also have my 2 grand children who belong to my daughter who died at xmas last year..whoops
Heaven forbid someone may think you're a judgemental snob..i'm sure you're not.
And by the way most hotels are grateful for visiting guests as it creates business for them while their guests are out all day.
The Greenland is very good - especially the newer rooms that opened last summer. We visited friends staying there last summer and the rooms (fantastic), food and new pool area were impressive.
catsbumfluff you have my respect as you certainly sound as if you have a busy life and deserve a great holiday. It's a shame you had to defend yourself but I understand why you felt so offended. I hope the other poster is slower to pass such blanket judgements and condemnations in future.
Ok lets keep this topic friendly. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Fair enough Kath you have a point' i just feel good manners is in order..CAN'T THINK OF A USER NAME dissagreed with me but at least he made it polite and playful.
Can't actually see Mikes post so am not sure what he wrote. unless I am going bonkers, might have to pm him ? But I assume he agreed with me.
I am afraid I stand by what I said. Many people work extremely hard for 50 weeks to stay in a decent hotel for a fortnight to use the facilities that affords. They pay a premium to be able to do this.
I actually think to post on a public board that 'stay in a cheap place and then just go and use the facilities of an expensive one ' is poor quality advice to people.
It's unfair on both those that have paid for the expensive hotel, the hoteliers themselves who are providing a facility ie slides to someone who isn't actually prepared to pay to maintain them or general upkeep of the surrounds etc. It's also unfair on the cheap hotel as presumably the cheap one actually relies on some money coming in from it's clients in order to survive, otherwise it could 'go under' whilst it's clients are freeloading elsewhere.

If hotels don't normally allow outsiders in then I think it is wrong for people to just turn up and use the facilities and the hotel in within their rights to ask someone to leave and I would think people would be entitled to be upset by someone else coming in.
So it depends on which kind of hotel people are talking about here.
At the end of the day you go on holiday to have fun.
9x times out of 10 the small hotel will make its money off its guests when they have a drink ,when they come back on an evening out or before they go out.
I never just use a hotel without it's permission i always call in and ask first the day before i wish to use it and i spend money while i'm there.
Whether you've paid a premium on staying at a better hotel or not ,it's up to your hotel if they want outside custom.
Most do.
I'm staying at a better hotel this year with all the facilities a premium hotel offers , and i'll be honest it will not bother me one bit who uses it's facilities as long as their not trouble causers or loud and steaming drunk.
It's their business to bring in extra custom if they can.
And no matter how hard we all work ..some of us can only get the experiance of abroad by staying in budget accomadation as not everyone has as much spare cash as others for whatever reason.
So it's only my opinion but i feel what i suggested can valid and useful...just not to you obviously.
I understand you must feel very strongly about what you call free loading.
It is what it is ...me offering my custom ..the purchasing of food and beverage in exchange for the use of the pool.
Simples.
