In answer to your original question it is becoming a very quick convenient, and most economical way of booking an holiday these days as you often find out what you get for your money before you leave via pictures web sites etc.

Most of the time you also have the benefit of dealing directly with the owner which should also give you some comfort.

i have been booking flights and accomodation for my family for the last 10 years and use these guidelines
find flights first
at present BA are by far the cheapest from manchester anywhere
but fly on a different day ie tenerife on a saturday
just check for the cheapest flights
then try alpha rooms com or find-rooms .com
and you wiill have no problems finding a room for that day
note private accomodation usually has friday turn round in tenerife.

For example my wife and i are going to gran canaria for the first time at easter staying at 5 star hotel half board for £400 each against a holiday company price of £1300

just dont rush and have a good look around all the web sites
its worth it
