Hi Alan,

I just got back from Cairo on Sunday night, having been lucky enough to see Egypt play twice (against Ivory Coast in the last group match and against Dem Rep. Congo in the quarter final) - it was an incredible experience, unlike any football I've been to over here.

Getting tickets shouldn't be too difficult - ours were 15 LE in the third class section, but if you can get top of the range seats, they will cost you 150 LE. There are no set seats, and it's all a bit of a scramble to get into the stadium and find somewhere to sit. The stadium is full about 3 hours before the game kicks off, and the build-up and atmosphere are something else - do try and go if you get the chance! You can fly to Cairo at the moment for about £240 on Alitalia (I wouldn't really recommend it after a 15 hour delay on the way out there).

Being a Spurs fan, I am so chuffed I got this chance to see Mido play in his home country (if only for about half a game) and some of the Egyptian players are outstanding. I could talk about this all day! I'm gutted because I missed last night's match, and my husband is going to the final without me.

Good luck if you dedcide to go for it - I'm sure you won't regret it!

There's something wrong with Mido....

I came up to Cairo yesterday to suprise my wife on her birthday. Was supposed to go back this morning but am stuck here now because of a strong sandstorm right now !

The weather in Nuweiba the past few days has been fantastic.... but I guess it will be changing by this evening as this sandstorm moves across Sinai.

I got into Cairo at 1.30 p.m. yesterday and the crowds were already beginning to form for the match. I had to go to the bank and then go to buy a present for my wife in the shops along Salah Salem near to the stadium. There the atmosphere was fantastic... so many people passing by dressed up in red, black and white and all in a very cheerful mood. A new trend is that alot of the supporters are now female... loads of teenage girls dressed up to kill in red, black and white !!!

We watched the match at home, accompanied by the birthday cake. The first ten minutes was good, and then the next 70 were boring as hell... maybe not quite as bad as the match against Morocco but still bad enough. Then Mido was taken off and threw his tantrums and suddenly the last ten minutes were great.

I would imagine now that 99 % of Egypt is really pis..d off with Mido... who so many people think here is a rich, spoilt brat ! And maybe his fellow team members also feel the same.... as soon as he was taken off the whole team woke up and played great. He played in the match against Morocco and the team were lousy. He was missing from the Congo match and the team were great.

Mido... I hope you are reading this !

Anyway.... after the match we headed over to the nearby Karvin Hotel for a really super Indian dinner. The El Merghani Road around the new bridge was completely blocked by thousands of supporters celebrating with fires, fireworks, dancing, singing and cheering ! After dinner we went past Sawra street and there too everything was completely blocked by the underpass by more thousands of supporters ! An amazing and incredibly exciting and fun experience !

Now.... how the hell am I going to get to Nuweiba !
