we were on a Princess cruise at xmas and docked back into Fort Lauderdale and had a 10 wait for our return flight. Princess had various tours organised for passengers with late flights so we took a airboat ride through the Everglades. Perhaps Disney cruises will have the same

We did an RCI cruise out of Canaveral a few years ago, but under our own steam rather than through the holiday company; dropped our hire car off and picked up another at the end of the cruise to take us back to Orlando. However......... unless things have changed since 2004 there is not much (i.e. nothing) to do at the port, the nearest town where I dropped and picked up the car was about 10-15 min drive away, the hire company sent a minibus to pick up arriving passengers who had cars booked. I imagine Virgin will pick you up and take you directly to the airport (possibly with a stop for airboat rides or similar, at a cost!) There aren't any shops or anything at the port, it's not like an airport where you can pass the time browsing. There will be beaches around but I don't see how you would get to them without missing your bus to the airport, which is a good distance away.
