wots hit them.
Last year our first time we handed out pound coins like confetti at the airport wont be caught out this time though
Just don't do it!!! OK, if you need the help and they have really done you a good service then pay them something sensible in relation to their environment (2 - 10 Rs/-) would be plenty (less than 10p)...
Rob, What could you get for a pound for the children. Denis
now why dont we all stick to our guns and give the money to CWT at the HT meetings instead of to the porters!!!!
Yes jANE ...what a brill idea........then we all know rob can do so much more with our pound coins ......colleen
Jane, thats a fantastic idea. I totally agree with you (and Irishcolleen). The pound coins could be collected at the meets on Sundays and Wednesdays. It would go a long way to help those poor under privilleged children instead of the greedy so and sos at the airport
Good idea for donating to CWT but i also think we should go to Dabolim armed with 10p pieces.
I think I've still got a supply of French Francs somewhere.....doubt if that would go down well!
just think what a lot of cash could go to CWT.... everyone put their pounds in the tin at the meets £1 per case on the way in and £1 per case on the way out!!!! when you try to add it up by the amount of flights times the amount of passengers WOW what a boost that would give the charity!!!
We would be happy to receive any donations (thanks guys!) really busy trying to get the newsletter out... Should be able to reply more in a few days....
£1 to them is equivalent to a day's wage to them so I definitely wouldn't give them that amount. My friend now gives them 10p or a very small denomination in rupees and they would look at you a say "pound?" as if it is the only word they know. Also, don't change your money at the airport, when they start waving £20 notes at you, as they would give you the lowest rate they can get away with, especially for first timers. However you could allow one of the porters/ baggage handlers to carry your suitcase back to the airport when you return to the UK as they will want you change your remaining rupees back into pounds, that they got as tips initially; my advice is to offer them a low price as it appears the bureau de change will not change pound coins, only notes.
i have spoken to my friends who are going over this year and they are going to hang on for dear life to their cases and give the £1's to children walking tall at the meets!!
I've never tipped at the airport - its only a couple of feet until taxis etc. Just tell them firmly no, they do listen.
Then he had the cheek to ask for £1 for carrying it to the end of the arrival halls. I said arent you going to take it to our coach, and he said no this is as far as i can go, theres another porter waiting tot ake your case to your coach outside. Needless to say i didnt pay him! he went mad.
On our return i gave the porter 50rup, which he wasnt happy with, he was demanding £1, but i didnt want to give him any english money as i needed it for the journey home for drinks for my son.
When i go in Jan im definetly not going to give in to the porters. To be honest theres only twice where we've allowed the porters to take our bags, that was on our first visit, and then April just gone.
They're getting nothing of me next time!!!
I've got a couple of ten rupee notes ready for the suitcase grabbers!!
