Hi
We have booked flights to Dalaman and want to stay in Akyaka at the Yucelen hotel. Does anuone know if it is possilble to book into there independently or do they just deal with travel companies and package holidays?

What is the area like, is it very quiet?
It looks very picturesque, are there plenty of places to eat and drink?
There are quite a few apartments and a couple of hotels We have booked 3 times through Mepar Tours. Last year we stayed in the Sezgin apartotel which is about 3 minutes from the beach and we are staying there again this year. There are other nice apartments near the beach and a lot of apartment accomodation is further up the hill (it can be a bit of a walk in the heat but no problem in the evening). There is also the Yucelen hotel, beachside, and a couple of other small hotels including the Ottoman residence which some other members have stayed at.
Akyaka is small and quiet in comparision to Icmeler or even Turunc. It does not have much in the way of tourist shops though it has plenty of mini markets and a few gift type places. There are around half a dozen restaurants on the beach front, the same again in the the lower part of the village and more in the top part of the viilage about a 15min walk up the hill. There are a few bars but again not a lot and not overly touristy. There are also some picturesque riverside fish restaurants. The beach is lovely and the sea warm as it is shallow quite a good way out (very safe for small kids). Over all it is a lovely place for a relaxing holiday with the socialising more restaurant than bar based though you can get a mean cocktail at the Yagmur! It is half an hour from Marmaris and the Dolmus run there once a day leaving Akyaka at 10am and returning I think at 4pm or 4.30 from Marmaris. I love the fact that it is still predominantly a Turkish resort for Turks and is not overrun with English pubs, large screen TV's or Kareoke as that just isn't my knid of thing. What you do get is great Turkish Food, wonderful hospitality and gorgeous surroundings (oh and I didn't even mention the chocolate icecream, or the guy selling mussels on the beach!) Roll on 5th June when we go back.
If you do a search for Akyaka you can find various reports that other members have posted
Here are a couple of sites that give more info and accomodation

Do like to have chat while eating at night, sites you sent look interesting, many thanks
. There are a couple of music bars but they played mainly turkish pop and they never seemed that busy. I really liked the Hotel Magician bar at night nice comfy sofa's right next to the beach... lovely
Here is the link to an earlier thread on Akyaka that you may find of interest. Let us know if you decide to go as I am curious to see what others think

We also had a lovely family holiday a couple of years ago in Akyaka. The setting, and the beach are wonderful. Beach is perfect for small children. Also loved the riverside fish restaurants! We have an apartment in Turunc, and love both places, but we find the evenings better in Turunc. The village in Akyaka is very spread out, and we thought the choices of where and what to eat are more limited. They are both great though!
It's what Turkey was like 20 years ago, before everyone else discovered the secret.
I think there's plenty of choice of places to eat: 4 or 5 on the beach front, 5 or 6 in the lower village, the same on the top road, and a similar number along the river. That makes about 20 places - not bad for a village about the size of Polperro.
The best thing, though, is that the food is generally excellent, and very Turkish. So many resorts no longer have the traditional Turkish lokanta (like a Greek taverna), with a chilled cabinet with dozens of wonderful starters (meze) and different kinds of meat and fish laid out for you to choose. Last time I was in Turunc, I searched in vain for a real lokanata - but in Akyaka you're spoilt for choice.
Go to Akayaka.

PS You may have guessed I quite like the place.
Not been back to Akyaka yet then?
The golden Roof restaurant is my favourite for the very thing you mention. Its one of the few that we've found in the last few years where you still get taken up to the chill cabinet and are shown all the various starters and main courses to choose from All homemade by mum of course, though by the time you have eaten the lamuchun that it supplied as soon as you sit down your half full before you start. Ooooh can't wait!
Not much to see but here are 2 photo's taken on the beach
Kavos! ah don't mention that! I can actually laugh about it now as its about 10 years since I had my nightmare holiday there!
I wouldn't go back there if you paid me !
http://www.akyaka.com Some of the contributers live in Akyaka so great if you have a specific question about the town.
Recently found an Akyaka discussion forum at I'm travelling to Akyaka for the 1st time in 6 weeks (& counting!) & have heard that the hill from the beach is steep.
Is this true?
I'm now strting to panic as will be 30 weeks pregnant!!

have a look at in the picture archive at this link

there are pictures of Akyaka in there and there is one of the road going up the hill
I've done so much research on Akyaka I thought I'd seen all the pics avaialable, must have missed that one though!!
It doesn't actually look that steep?!?! but I'm sure I will change my mind when I'm climbing it in the hot Turkish sunshine.
I've warned my husband that I will borrowing my sons pushchair for the journey & he'll be pushing me up the hill!!
We're staying in a villa near the Idyma Hotel which I think is quite far up?
It is actually a little steeper than the photo suggests as that is toward the bottom or the hill. If it gets too much in your delicate condition then stop at the cay bahce (tea garden) or cafe to you and me half way up! If I remember correctly the Idyma is at the top of the village but you will have lovely views. I am back to Akyaka in 3 weeks time, can 't wait. I'm sure you will love it
I'm back in July, in a villa in Atakoy (about 12 mins from Akyaka) - I really can't wait
A beautiful place, but don't tell anyone about it
walking up to my apartment we found its slightly steep but from my apt to top of town a bit steeper my little one was moaning about going up the hill, and if its hot makes it worse, so as suggested you might need to sit half way up, shame you didnt get somewhere nearer the bottom
We go in 6 weeks (5 weeks & 6 days to be exact) for 2 weeks so will also be there 1st week in July so may see some of you there.
I really can't wait.
we arrive july 14th so probably the day you return
