I would say you should get a late deal for less than that in either the Dominican Republic or Cuba, maybe other island depending on demand and the weather as it is in the middle of the hurricane season.
If you do your research on the different Islands and resorts within now, when a good deal comes up you only have to check out the hotel and book it, I've lost a good deal by late research.

snap. We loved our first caribbean holiday to the Dominican Republic. You'll be able to pick up a reasonable deal there as your dates are quite flexible. Remember when you budget that a lot of these resorts are all inclusive so you won't have to put your hand in your pocket unless you want to.
Getting back to the island - the weather is hot and the people really friendly. Please don't discount it without researching it a bit. Happy hunting!
