Being quite a small island with not much traffic you could do nearly the whole island in a day if you had a car. Mahon itself is not very big but it has a nice habour area and is charming. There are port cruises you can do that I have heard are nice. The port is the second largest natural deep one or something. Having small children we haven't done it yet. Mahon also has a market in the morning a couple of days in the week. Tuesdays and Saturdays I think. I am sure someone else will know. I guess it depends a bit on how much time you will have there.

I agree you can do a special day bus tour North/South/East/West think its called and you stop at 4 different aeres and also the church on the hill. We went with a tour operator but if you go into the tourist office, I believe they do the same or similar tours. Lovely way to see a lot of the island in a short time. You could go to cuitadella, and have a look around shops and harbour, and on the way back a trip up mount torro and meal in the restaurant??

Liz, my parents and parent inlaws have both stopped in Mahon whilst on there cruise, they were there in October last year and May this year. The town shops close after lunch, so if you go shopping go up the hill into the town straight away. My inlaws said they had about 6 hours there and spent there time in Mahon.

We stayed at Punta Prima last October and we had a afternoon in Mahon. We shopped when we first got ther. We then went down to the harbour and did a harbour cruise. We then had tapas for lunch by the harbour.

If you want a short trip, you could catch a bus/taxis to Punta Prima and spend a few hours on the beach. There`s a few bars around the cove. On the way you could stop off at Santa Luis, a traditional Menorcan town. Traveling time to Punta Prima is less than half an hour.
