Afraid that I can't help on the Belleville.

As you say, you are going to be in Sunny Beach at the very start of the season, which has been rather 'stretched' by tour operators but, things like the water parks *should* be opening in your second week, judging by this year's starting dates.

As far as spending money is concerned, you will be among the first visitors to discover how prices have changed for the new season, so it will be almost impossible for us to guess in advance. There are known increases expected in January 2008 on items such as fuel & tobacco, as well as ongoing price increases on everyday goods in Bulgaria, due to inflation & other factors - how these will affect the resorts remains to be seen.

You would be well-advised to check out our Currency 'sticky' - generally, using a Nationwide Debit Card or changing Sterling (assuming that you are from the UK) in Bulgaria will give you the best rate of exchange.

Yes it will still be the Lev & you will get a better exchange rate in BG than here, we have been there the last week in May a few years ago it was very quite but the weather was good it is worth a bus ride into Old Nessabur which is really nice any time of the year. have a great holiday

Don't forget that Scottish banknotes are NOT generally accepted in Bulgaria - I have only seen one reference to someone who said that they had managed to change some but at a lower rate than Bank of England notes so, if taking cash, make sure it's in undamaged & unmarked B of E notes.

We are going out again this incoming year going out on the 2nd June we have mostly went in Sept but the prices were quite cheap still in Sept past. Yea they are creeping up but that is only to be expected as they were very cheap. We are staying in the Iberostar sunny beach this year we have stayed in the fiesta beach the last three years running.
Just go and enjoy the cheap prices while they last.

Despite the holiday companies running holidays in Bulgaria from early May well into October, the true holiday season is much shorter and there are other problems to take into consideration early and late in the year.

I know the Varna area very well, and reports suggest that Sunny Beach is no different. The truth is that the actual holiday season does not start until it is formally opened with a fanfare of trumpets in the middle of June. Things are only starting to open from the middle of May, and very early there are likely to be very few bars, restaurants, stalls and even hotels open. Remember the resorts are mothballed over winter and there is also the problem staffing, many of whom are university students. There is also the problem of building work continuing well into the first weeks of June.

At the end of the season, by the middle of September places are closing down, and late September/October can be not very warm.

It is for these reasons that the Balkan Holidays brochure states most clearly that at the start and end of the season, (their season!), one can expect some facilities to be closed.
