or even males?
i found that when i was on the beach (mainly between calangute and candolim) i frequently walked along the shore with my son who is 3, whilst my other half went on the jet ski's. I found a lot of indian tourists ( not Goan's!!!!) , tried to take my photo. Most of them asked me, to which i replied no, but quite a few ignored my firm No, and took a picture of me anyway.
Its not like i was wearing anything too revealing, like i saw a lot of swedish people and people from Russia wearing thongs and no bikini top.
I was wearing a pair of my husbands shorts and my bikini top ( so it wasnt really a pretty sight )
But, the most annoying thing was, they were asking and pestering me for my photo even when they saw i was with my child.
One afternoon as i was walking from Candolim towards calangute beach an indian tourist, i think he was from Mumbai, blatentley held his camera directly at me and took a photo, because i saw the flash He didnt ask for my photo or even say he had took my photo. The flash was a give away though.
I was really tempted to get hold of the camera and chuck it into the sea!!
I know that Goans arent like that, but the stupid rude indian guys spoil it.
The boys in shooters where very good they came out and told them to leave and handed them there bill, it seems to be the indian tourist though all the goans or indians working in goa have always been polite.
Yes I had that a few times. One guy was pretending he was taking a picture of a boat as I was walking out from the Sea, it was blatantly obvious he wasn't though. I was quite shocked and didn't say anything but I wish I had now.
Yummymummy, have you got red hair by any chance?.My friend and her 2 children drew a lot of attention in Singapore because of their red hair.Lots of people took their photos including Japenese tourists.
It has happened to me too on quite a few occasions, it is so annoying when they pretend to take a photo of thier friend but it is obvious the camera is pointing straight at you!!!!
Do what I do give the fingers to the camera .....
I can only assume that if they took a picture of me , it would be so that they could stick it on their fridge door to help with their diet ,
The indian holiday makers from the nbig cities are worse.if you think about it any state of undress is rare for them to see, so they do go over the top when they see us toursits in swimwear, shorts etc.i agree it is annoying though when they take photos without permission.my hair id dyed red and they did go crazy over it last time, and i did get annoyed at being pestered on the beach.
I've noticed this quite a lot over the last year, especially if women are topless. There seems to be a lot of male indians that have never seen a woman, let alone a white woman. Let's hope no photo's find themselves on the internet!!
A bit freaky when you think about it.... we dont stare at anyone in such a way! people were wanting to touch her face too which annoyed me a little. she's nearly 4 now and definately knows her own mind so prob wont entertain having photo taken by strangers!
This thread reminds me of a hilarious story from Vagator Beach in 1999. Me and hubby (then boyfriend) were chilling on the beach and an Israeli girl cam onto the beach with (get this) knee high winter boots and a bikini on. She was laying out her towel and generally settling down for a day on the beach and a group of Indian men noticed her (I think we all noticed her as she looked so ridiculous!!) Anyway as she was bending over the men lined up facing their friends camera and posed so that her bum was in shot. She was blissfully unaware of what they were up to and we sat watching this woman basically being exploited. I wonder how many people have seen the photo in Mumbai????? I for one will not be taking my bikini top off-nobody would find my fried eggs very interesting anyway
This is a frequent problem for my daughter, she is 16yrs old & blonde. We have experienced the same thing each time we visit & like you say it does seem to be people from other Indian states that are the culprits.
December 2006 We were on Baga beach & an Indian man was blatantly videoing my daughter in the sea & get this, sat next to him was his son, who was approx 12yrs old, so what shameful habit is he passing on to his offspring.
When asked to refrain in his actions he did for a short while, the carried on as if it was ok. So we asked the shack lads to speak to him, they actually went down to talk to him & his wife returned just at that moment.
Out fo sheer embarresment, she proceded up the beach, dragging her son with her & started to give my daughter a load of grief about having no colour or culture & then she stormed off, he husband had sloped off down the beach to avoid any repocussions. This really upset my daughter as she was the innocent party in it all.
Also in April 2006 we were at the same shack (TGI Fridays) & there were 5 tourist's (4 lads from Kanataka & 1 from lad an arab state) all in there 20's who were making a point of playing a football in the sea, but ensuring they were close to my daughter & my friends daughter & one of them was taking phots of the 2 girls. I asked what he was doing & told him I was unhappy that he was taking photos of my then 15yr old daughter, to which he denied do so, offering the camera to me to check (but it was a 35mm film camera so there was no way of seeing what he had taken. He then left the camera with me & went to join his friends in the sea. So I opened the camera & exposed the whole film (bet he got a shock when he went to get his photos developed).
It is unfortunate but we have had to accept that this happens, but we keep telling them not to & hope that the respect our wishes.
Don't let it spoil your holidays
Best regards
Stewbacca & Family
I thought it was really funny and being the dutiful girlfriend walked away and left my OH to it!
I am far too self conscious to wear a cozzie on a beach so (I don't think) I am the subject of anyone's photo album.
If I lay on beachs omeone would either throw me a fish or try and put me back in the water to join the rest of my pod!
I would find it very annoying if people were taking my photo though.
Once, I looked up from my sunbed to see an indian 'tourist' about to take a picture of me...his 'friend' was lying on his side beside my sunbed!!!
I have heard, however, although I don't know how much truth there is in this....that pictures can be airbrushed to remove bikinis etc...and used in the Indian equivalent of Men Only!
So I opened the camera & exposed the whole film (bet he got a shock when he went to get his photos developed).
Nice one, personally any person caught doing this to my wife or daughter, when we take her, will have a very wet camcorder/camera, 9 times out of 10 the pictures are put on the web esp the topless ones and are used to boast as lovers/girlfriends etc.
There was a guy doing it a few seasons back outside spottys shack and it was reported to the guys in there and to be fair they went down and chased the indian bloke off with pool sticks etc
When my partner told me the story, I said: "...you know WOULD have ended up on some Indian website somewhere, don't you...!" I wasn't jesting - I was seething!!!
Years ago in Turkey I had the problem of complete strangers coming up to me and touching my face and hair. Luckily this was before most people in Turkey had cameras and mobiles didn't exist. I know how annoying it is, I ended up covering my hair with a scarf. Unfortunately it looks as though it is turning in to a real problem in Goa.
In Delhi, a man touched my bottom and I made it known to the general public "That man just touched me!!!!!" and the locals proceeded to give him a bit of a slap and telling off. He walked off with his tail between his legs I can tell you. The best deterrent is to humiliate them as good Indians will not accept their fellow conuntrymen treating women in this way-show them up and you will have the rest of the public on your side!
I think this is the one thing that spoils a holiday in Goa
Ive just remembered something else, i was in the sea last week in calangute not far from the steps, and this indian guy was swimming next to me. I had hold of my son in my arms, and the guy grabbed my leg. At first i thought it was because the wave knocked him off his feet and it was an instant reaction to stay up, but then it happened a second time. I went mad and told him to F off. I cant believe he had the cheek to try his luck a second time, especially as i was holding a small child.
Tracy turned round on her sunbed one day and there were 2 of them stood right behind her with a third taking a photo form the front of her. As though they were with her.
Very strange
