I stay where I get a good deal!! Previously hCala Bona, Consulx2, Talayot x2, Levante Parkx2, Moreyo, Bonamar and most recent Millor Garden. Also stayed Sa Coma, S'illot and Cala Millor many times. I also like Santa Ponsa, and C'an Pastilla but not as much as CB. Yes it is lovely to see the same staff year after year, The lady you are talking about is in the gift shop Pireo, where we change our ££'s she must have owned that shop for ages!!! Oh happy days long time to wait til June next year. CBG

We took her over some Ferrero Rocher and she was over the moon as they only have at xmas apparently because of the heat. Im going in July next year, exactly 52 weeks today lol, cant wait. Terrible that you wish your life away for the sake of a summer holiday eh !!!!!!

Hi Tis, CBG, Big Al, parga,
how's it going, went over there one night, with my mates band, "Abba again", we were staying in Sant Ponsa, and they live in Palma Nova, asked me if I wanted to go to Cala Bona. They were playing the "Alicia", so I contacted Dave from the "London Inn", and him, and Doreen, and Lesley all came to meet me at the hotel. What a great night we had, I had never experienced Dave and Doreen out of their comfort zone, but they were superb, really have come to terms with everything, they are really happy.
On another note, two of their acts, are now playing at the "Alicia", David Nicholls, and Claudia, so something good has come out of the "London" closing.
Oh and have I mentioned "Abba again", they are the best "Abba" tribute band, on the Island, that's when they're not over here, it's official, cos Suzanne Shaw says so, she should know, she was one of them, before "Hearsay", ruined her career.
Looks like we may well be going back to CB, next year, Santa Ponsa, wasn't all it's cracked up to be, it's just ok, nothing bad about the place, but it's not the same.
shrimper, I believe Jon has gone back to S. America, don't know the reason, he may be back sometime, yes what a great entertainer, his broken english, was so funny.
Speak soon, G x

hi all cala bona fans, hubby and I were in the Alicia in June and we also saw "Abba", yes very good, would think you were actually watching them. We were lucky enough to sit outside and watch them as the weather was very warm and very humid, was a shame that we were not able to watch "Rod Stewart" outside, was very close in the lounge.

Wish we were there as we speak, absolutely pelting down with rain at the moment :(

Sorry lou26chris, forgot we had spoken, was just replying to my regular mates on here, glad you liked them, they are really good, the best Abba tribute band I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot, just check out youtube, my god some of these girls sound like banshees.
Aww Claudia, now, we saw Claudia, when she first came over to Mallorca, must be about 2004, at the Kings bar, just over the road from the Alicia, she was sweating like a pig, very nervous. God yes what a great voice, something I said to my wife at the time, then when we started going to the London Inn, and she was on, well, we were quite like, she has made it then.
Great girl Claudia, she even did my wifes 55th birthday party, at the London Inn, there is footage of it on youtube, look for Claudia at her best, London Inn.
I only recently found out, that Dave from Abba Again, helped her out with her sound checks, and setting up her gear, when she first came over.
She is a lovely lady as you say, we know her quite well.

Pat C, yes they are very good, thats because they've been doing it, now for 10 years, nearly as long as the real thing, the harmonies are so tight, and the keyboard player, and the guitarist are so right, if you shut your eyes, you would almost think they are the real Abba.
They are on ewe tewb, sorry for wrong spelling, but this site won't let me spell it right.

Hi garry.
Thanks for that, we will be back in Majorca in October for six days, we are having a bit of a different holiday this time, we first fly to Kiev for a few days to see a friend, then fly to Valencia in Spain with Wizz Air , stay overnight in the new Valencia airport Travelodge that opens at the end of September then over to Majorca with Air Europa, not sure where we will stay yet, we thought about Santa Ponsa ourselves but a friend has just returned and said it was very nice but will not return, they said that it was just not their kind of resort, they are like us don't want it dead but not noisy either, so now it is a toss up between the Arcos Playa again or we might even try es Bolero Apartments in Cala D'Or for a change. Needless to say we will be visiting Cala Bona for a day trip or something.
Glad to hear Dave and Doreen are well after the London Inn, pity it is not still open with them, even though we stay in S'Ilott we still missed the London Inn when we was there in June.

All the best.
Alan

Returned home today from a lovely 2 week stay at Jimmy's Apts in Cala Millor......weather was a bit pants, got soaked TWICE (not at all impressed) but when it was hot it was HOT!!!! :sun2

We found both resorts very busy and decent bars/restaurants had plenty of custom....our main haunt was Cheers in Cala Millor becos' quite simply it ticks all our boxes and Kev's Sunday roasts and chicken parmo's are quite literally to die for but we did eat a couple of meals at Rope & Anchor in CB harbour (very reasonable...such a shame it's up for sale), Winstans (lovely spag bol but no sign of Graham or Deidre and very surprised to see that is ALSO up for sale) and Beachboys (busier during day than night).

Surprised that Argos Bar have given up serving meals on a night but having said that, they were still busy every time we passed thru'. Smugglers has gone and is now Taverna Grenada, Hold Em Inn closed, London Inn too (wierd seeing it all still with signage up but no sign of life. Have to say that the vast majority of bars were VERY busy....so there are people out there spending money but perhaps are a bit more choosy where they spend! Atolon now has a menu board facing promenade for non-guests...prices seemed quite reasonable but can't comment on quality as we never tried it.

Eileen & Pedro at Supermarket Ca'n Pedro still going strong - fab sarnies freshly made and for all it's a Spar...prices are kept low. Eileen does a free book exchange too!

Icecreams at The Sweet Shop in CB harbour...run by the lovely Julie.....try the lemon icecream...SOOOO refreshing! Can't believe I only discovered it on our last night...gutted! She's great for sweets, pies, sarnies there too......NOT to be confused with the takeaways where Shaun's Crazy Corner was....they did not appeal at all!

Waku Waku on back street is closing...50% off when spending €10 or more (easy enough to do in there....got a couple of bargains myself).

Side streets still awash with dog poo....they seriously need to address the issue as it seems to be getting worse. Pavements in a bad way tho' they were doing some replacing as we left and drains STILL a problem on promenade to front of Bonamar.....the smell one night had me gagging! Otherwise both resorts are just as they have always been....give or take a shop or two.

Used local Aumasa buses more this trip....city bus to Sa Coma, down to Porto Cristo and up to Cala Ratjada market....kids didn't like the lack of a rigid timetable but I quite enjoyed sunbathing whilst waiting at various bus stops! Will I go back......aye for sure, tho' the weather needs to improve - have seen nothing like it for time of year :(

hi tis, im a newbie, but a great fan of Cala Bona and can relate to everywhere uve been. This was my 5th consecutive year and as you may have already read am booked for next year. Shame about the weather, but then seems to be bad all over. Did you go see little lady in corner shop opposite Julie's?? Lovely little woman.
Reply
Yes I did see the lady in Pireo.....unfortunately this year she has decided for whatever reason not to exchange sterling TC's.....a big surprise as we have always gone to her (alternated between her and Hola Shirts last year depending on who gave best rate). Had to go to Hola Shirts (under Alicia instead) altho' we'd taken more Euro's this year so didn't have to change too many.

Still love both resorts and can't honestly see us going anywhere else as we have made so many friends there :)

She is so so sweet. always get a lovely cuddle lol, not sure if you have read back on my previous posts, but we took her some Ferrero Rocher this year, she was over the moon as they only get at Christmas due to the heat throughout the year. Do you ever go to Thalassa ?? Where do you normally stay ??
Reply
Would love Cafe Thalassa, unfortunately wouldn't trust my kids not to end up in the harbour....so have to admire it from a distance.....

Have stayed at Levante (many moons ago - long before it was a Thomson Gold), La Pinta Apts in Cala CM, Med 2 (now Arcadia Apts) in CM, Sol Y Mar in CB, Sema in CB, Jimmy's in CM (3 times including this stay), Moreyo Hotel in CB and Los Geranios Apts in CB.

Mrs Pireo is lovely and we always get a lovely warm welcome from her....didn't see as much of her tho' becos of the TC's :(

Hi Garry1412 !
I have just looked at U tube , lovely hearing Claudias fab voice again ! :tup

Pat C
We always have a few morning coffees at Thalassa while staying in Cala Bona, it's such a lovely peaceful setting to sit and watch the world go by for an hour ! ;)

Tis
Lovely report of your Hol's , I know how much you love CB & CM , the same as we do ! Sorry to hear you had 2 bad days of rain :yikes .... luckily for us, our 2 weeks in July was wall to wall sunshine.

Well all is left to say is roll on June 23rd 2012 , can't wait to be back in our favourite holiday resort !

It was lovely to read you had a good time Tis. Can quite believe that Winstons is "on the market". We met Graham (on your recommendation :tup ) and he said it was on the cards. It seemed really quiet when we were there (went end June/beg July). To be honest though, I think most places are up for sale and mostly its just to see what the market is like. As ive said before we dont like Cheers (had a few bad meals in there and we have tried it several times) we tend to go to Weatherspoons opposite and had a great time.

Glad you had a good time though, it was great to reminisce with you :) 2012 seems sooooo far away but we will be back - think we have the "if there are fish on the floor youre in Cala Millor, if the fish are gonna your in Cala Bona" bug :D
