Not as easy as one would expect.

After moving out here to Tenerife, we looked at the prosperct of Oz for our next adventure. However being 39 (at the time) I had to move fast as you loose many points once you hit the big four zero!

So with that in mind I provided all my info and recieved enough points to get in with my IT skills. However when I told them I was living in Tenerife my points plumeted to NIL!!!! They are not taking in from Spain, and it didnt even matter that I am a UK National! (they told me to lie about my address and give a family members address in the UK!!!)

To me this seems a little backward. I have proved I can make a go of it outside my native country. Even in a country with a different language to English. I would have thought that this would have made me quite a safe bet for settling!

But alas no... NO Espaniol in Oz!
There are many points systems on line . Just search for them on the web.

Hi futurebride. We are currently in the process of getting our visa on a 136 skilled independent. We have a 3 year old son and my partner is an electrician. First thing we had to do was gain a positive skills assessment from Trades Recognition Australia. You have to gain this before you even think about sending away your application form. We arent using an agent because ours is pretty straightforward and they can be very expensive.

Give me a shout if you need anymore information.

positive skills asses? Where and who would we contact regarding this.
When are yo off to OZ and which part?

We have another 2 or 3 years yet as my soon to be husband wants to get his chartered status first. I am a student and want to do my nursing(hence the 3 year wait) degree however i may be tempted to leave earlier funds permitting. I am sure we can go on my partners qualifications alone(the last time I checked we could)- and as he is under 30 we haven't lost any points although I hit 30 a few weeks back!

You must be excited? How long has the application taken and if you can offer any advice on the process etc i would be very greatful. You can pm me and i can pass on my email address.

Hi futurebride, you can dowload the necessary forms from the website. If you apply for a 136 skilled independent visa in your partners name then you go on his visa. Im not sure how to pm you as i have just joined lol.
I used the British expat forum and its a godsend. Type in Britishexpats.com and you will find all the information you need.

Good luck :D
