Arambul is also in the North. Ashvem and Mandrem are much nicer.
Ive been to Arambul, and although it was ok, I wouldnt be in a hurry to return.

Gemma I am surprised you didn't really like Arambol. We visit all three beaches every year - Ashvem, Mandrem and Arambol and love them all. When we went to Arambol last year Richard Gere was sitting in the same shack having breakfast. We are going to stay there for 2/3 nights when we go in March as we loved it there. It is busier than Ashvem and Mandrem with a proper small village atmosphere with money changing facilities and more eating places which is why we thought it would be nice to stay there for a few days. They also sell brilliant clothes in the little shops there so we intend to go with nothing but an empty travel bag when we go again. If it is good enough for Richard Gere then its ok for me.

Its too messy for me so it puts me off. Ive been to the shops at Arambul and nothing there that I cant get anywhere else in Goa. Its very laid back but its more hippy and traveller type people and thats not my scene, nothing wrong with it if you like it, but simply not for me. Of all 3 beaches I like Ashvem best and after that I would rather go to a quieter beach in the South.

I know what you mean about the hippy side. Perhaps thats why I like it, it reminds me of my young, free and easy days, before the days of mortgages and bills. That's why I love the clothes they sell there, at least I can still wear them and get away with it!

As long as you enjoy it Brenliz thats the main thing. If we were all the same the world would be a boring place wouldnt it :D
Let me know about the beach huts you stay at, I like hearing about that stuff. We are going south this year to beach huts at Agonda with the other girls and partners on the forum - Irishcolleen, Polly50 and Sleep r us (thats a large honeybee you 3 owe me for calling you girls :rofl )
We are all in the Goa for the second 2 weeks, hope to see you there :D

We would have loved to have gone with you down South but you are going the day before we leave I think. We are flying out on the 21 March but we will definately be at the meet ups with the appropriate wristbands. I am sure you will have a great time. We have done overnight stays on the beaches in the South twice and had a great time. We have already checked out where we are staying in Arambol. It is a guest house with restaurant attached on the very edge (sea side) of the path that goes towards the lake at the far end. We had a look around the rooms and they were very clean with private facilities, about £3 per night for 2 of us. No one can get into them without going through the restaurant so we felt it was safer that way. We are looking forward to meeting up with you all anyway.

I think a visit to Arambol is long overdue for me, if it's hippy that's great I love places with a 'bohemian' atmosphere, not sure if it will be as good as my favourite beach in the world - Palolem , I think it takes some beating :)

Have you been round the headland to the freshwater lake. That is worth a visit.

Ive been right along that way Mardon, its a bit of a trek, but a nice bit of the beach once you get there.
A friend from a beach shack in Baga went up their to run his own place and we went to see him. Ive got some photos of that area on the forum (somewhere).

I did hear that they are now charging to go for a dip in the lake and to use the mud baths.

I have never been to Arambol, only Asvem.

How long a trip is it from Baga??? May have to give it a go this year.

I hope your joking! How can someone own a lake??? The mud bath isn't even that great. Trek along a hippy poo ridden track to scrape some sulpha off a rock..pay!! No thanks. The lake is cool put I'm not paying some cheeky shack owner for the privilege. They can try and stop me going in if they want!

No, I am serious! My feelings were the same as yours. If you go before me (22 March) let me know how you get on. I will see what happens when we go.

Is this beach in the North or South ?

Someone has recommended this beach, we have only been to Mandrem and Ashwam beaches further north, and the popular Baga/calangute/candolim

try this nicola

Going on 29th feb with 9 of us. I'm telling you now I am NOT paying to go in the lake. I'll happily pay for a sun bed though. I'll also be asking to see paperwork to show me the guy owns the lake. lol

I like the area but its a bit dodge IMO. First thing I was asked when I got there was if I wanted any crack or opium. LOL  Big hippy influence there. Not that I'm pigeonholing anyone.

We got asked the same question Mardon. We were lying at one of the shacks quite close to the lake :D

We have never been approached when we have visited this beach but it wouldn't really bother me, you can be asked the same question in many establishments in this country as well. Unfortunately its just a fact of life these days.

Very true. I didn't take it that I look like a smack head or anything :D

Neverless I shall still go. I like the waves there there nice and powerful for body surfing. Just DO NOT venture to far out. The sea is very strong. I have to actualy catch a wave back in rather than swim agains the rip curl. It was full moon when I went so the waves were stronger. I need to look at the luna chart to see if there is a full moon while i'm there in march. Love a bit of body boarding or body surfing if there is no boards available.
