My parents are in Magaluf at the moment and I've been having daily updates from my mum with a mozzy bite count! Don't know what they're like elsewhere on the island at the moment. We fly out tomorrow, when I get back I'll post with a first hand experience to let you know what they're like.

Thanks! I am going to eat Marmite every day this week ( anything is worth a try and they say that this works) and then use sprays etc. I got bit on my eyelid in Greece and it swelled up. I could not see for 3 days as a result!!

Tonya, mosquitoes are quite active at this time of the year and even during the day if you happen to be in wooded areas. Can Picafort is close to the wetlands of Albufera, but mosquitoes are usually far less of a problem there than they are up the road in Playa de Muro and Alcudia which are right on Albufera, lakes and canals. Shouldn't be too bad.

See my post Mozzi Alert. Came back late last Thursday and were loads around. Avoid stagnant water and use a Deat spray. I didn't use any perfume or smellys of any kind and had 14 bites.

Hi guys. Well I am now taking garlic capsules and will be eating plenty of toast with marmite on this week!!!
I have also ordered some DEET spray and liquid plug in.

I was just reading somewhere that apparently everyone gets bitten by mozzies, just that some of us are allergic to their bites, so notice more.

Oh and stocked up on the anti-histimines too!! All ready for them now!! Not letting them spoil this holiday!!

OK here is how it goes.. MOZZIES don't bite they do not have teeth...

mozzis will attack any warm blooded animal the FEMALE ONLY will puncture the skin with its proboscis and sample the blood, now this is where it gets interesting, if she likes what she Tastes then she will inject an anti-coagulant to stop the blood clotting whilst she feeds, if she doesn't like you then she will move on to the next victim.. people in category one will suffer anything from light swelling with itch to full blown volcano's [like the wife :rofl ]those [like me :tup ] in the second group will see a small red spot at the most...

and another interesting thing .. there is no such thing as mozzi repellent.. the products sold actually mask the human scent so they don't find you

Looks like we were over there the same time, came back from cala bona on thursday, no mozzie bites at all, didn't see any or hear that whinning sound they make.

Our hotel room was right on the harbour so we sat watching the thunder and lightning from the comfort of my armchair. I love a good storm.

Stayed in Santa Ponsa for 2 weeks and came back 12 Sept, it was incredibly hot (100 degrees plus and very humid) but only got bitten once - usually they see me coming and attack me in the airport but no problems this time. Did use anti-mosie plug-ins in the apertment just in case.

Have a good holiday

Mozzies love me too.ggrrrrr.just have to rave again about a 'clicker' that my hubby bought for me at the beginning of the year. You can buy them in Boots etc, they give you a tiny zap of Quartz crystal (it doesn't hurt) If the repellants don't do their job and you get bitten, you zap said bite with the clicker (as many times as recommended by the brand) and the itching goes away really quickly. It is the best solution I have ever found, and believe me I have tried loads of cures!
Worth a go!

Hi jocross

Was in Cala Bona when the rains started on Tuesday, decided to walk back to Sa Coma when the heavens opened. Took shelter in a jewellers in the main street and was torrential. Got a taxi back to the hotel and watched the storm, was dramatic out to sea. Next day decided to walk across the headland to Calla Millor and again down it came, took shelter in the Beach Boys bar/cafe, was there for 2.1/2 hours. Some people never learn!!!!!!!!!

We flew back to Luton in the evening, what plane did you catch, were you delayed like us?

Yes the sprays and plug ins do mask the smell so the little blighter's can't find you. Two years back holidaying in the Algarve my legs became so infected by the bites that I had to go straight to the docs when I got home and get strong antibiotics. I must smell like rotten meat to attract them :rofl
