Hi Everyone
You shouldn't have any worries with Astraeus, they really are pretty good. The Boeing 737's carry 148 passengers and have approx 2inches extra legroom than other charters, it is true that the 73's don't have in-flight entertainment but the full onboard service compensates for this. The Boeing 757's based in LGW have recently been reconfigured into two class cabins, a premium cabin called 'Star Class' and an economy cabin. Although the economy cabin now has less legroom than when the aircraft was a 1 class cabin it is still far better than many competitors. The 75's also have IFE which is a bonus on the longer flight. As a general rule if you are flying with AEU from LGW you will be on the 757, if you are travelling from LBA or MAN then you will be travelling on the 737. Hope this helps everyone and anymore questions feel free
We're booking flight only from LGW to Kalamata Greece in July this year. I have a choice of AEU or Excel I wanted AEU as I'd heard good reports about them but after reading some of the comments on this forum I'm not so sure! Could you tell me if we would be on a 757 as I don't really want to be on a 737 with no entertaniment! Also do you know if meals come as standard as all the websites I can book through ask for £10-12.00 per person?
I would appreciate any info you can give me about them
Thanks
Diane
I've just had a reply from Astraeus Customer services to say that they offer complimentary meals on all their flights so no need to pay the extra.
Im pretty sure that you will be travelling on the 757 as LGW will be an all 757 base this summer. The only way you would end up travelling on a 737 is if AEU had a problem with the 757 but its not very likely. As Astraeus have said to you all meals are complimentary and as far as im aware the 757's have had new dvd technology in flight entertainment fitted so that should be even better than before. Hope you enjoy your trip

Have found a good deal for Red Sea in 2 weeks time ex Gatwick flying Astreaus. Can anyone confirm whether flight to Taba,Eygpt is on 757 with entertainment/better seat pitch? As I'm 6'4" its pretty important!!
Thanks Dan - it sounds good!

Also although it's not metnioned in their brochure / website, the upgrade to the premium cabin of £50/£65 is only for one week holidays and for a two week holiday you have to pay double !!
Please does anyone know they type of plane they use from Manchester to Taba (going 26th May). Is the legroom OK, might we get any entertainment!!!!! (from what I`ve read think it is unlikely but you can live in hope). We have booked a Thomsons holiday but it seems they are using Astraeus. Thanks for any advice/info
To answer my own question the ThursdayAstraeus flight from Gatwick to Taba is by 737-700 - leg room is pretty cramped for 5 hour flight esp on return - food was passable and service pretty good, but no in flight entertainment. Both out and back were on time - pleasant surprise. What wasn't so nice was arriving back to the cold!!!
Flying from Manchester to the Gambia (2wks and counting down!!) with Astraues Airlines will this be a 737 or 757? anyone any idea?concerned about no in-flight entertainment for 1 bored teenager!!
Normally I am quite lucky and able to get a bulkhead seat with whoever we fly with, not been with Astraeus before.
Thanks
We're flying with Astraeus to Kalamata this summer and I've e-mailed them lots of times with various questions. They always replied really quickly and are extremely helpful. In fact they must be one of the best companies I've come across for Customer service! So I'm sure if you e-mail them you'll get an answer.
Just to let you know that meals are complimentary on their flights so no need to pay the extra that your tour operator might request!

Just found this on the Astraeus website -
All standard seating is allocated at check-in.
Extra Leg Room seats are only available at the airport, on the day of departure. They are allocated on a first come, first served basis of £20GBP per seat, per flight, which is payable on the day at the airport. Astraeus regrets that we are unable to offer a facility to pre-book extra leg-room seats prior to the day of departure.
*
Unfortunately, Astraeus is unable to allocate extra leg-room seats to any passenger that has a history of back, neck, leg problems, unwilling to assist cabin crew in the event of an emergency, unable to speak English or any children under 14 years of age.
This probably answers your question
Diane
I am not disabled or limited in mobility - was in a car accident some years ago and hurt my right knee, when I tend to sit in a confined space for a lenght of time my leg gets stiff, so the bit of extra room helps. I do have a doctors letter and in it he does say I am fully mobile.
Got am e`mail from Astraeus this morning and have also spoken to them, they are so nice and helpful. (compared with the grief I got last year from Excel). It is all sorted for flight out and I then had to phone Thomsons who were also very helpful have sorted me for the way back.
I am going to Gran Canaria in September and i have never heard of this company. I have located their website but there is nothing better than customer reviews.
Are they usually reliable, professionally run etc ? What is the standard of aircraft?
All help appreciated greatly.

Hi littlekev .... I have merged your enquiry with this existing thread, hopefully you will now find lots of info on the previous 4 pages.
Hi, flew with them twice last year to minorca, everything was fine.No entertainment on board but service o.k.We payed for meals but everyone gets meal even if you havent payed. If you havent payed for meal just e.mail them to confirm this as it was in january of this year that i asked and they replied with a very nice e.mail.
Just come back from Taba, flights OK - they were on time,no entertainment but we did knw that befor travelling. Meals even smaller than airline meals last year (and I thought they had cut back then!!). Cabin staff nice and pleasant on the way out but very miserable on the way back.
Would use them again if there was no other choice.
