Hi cathy and sonia

we went to costa teguise in december 2001 and had a really good hol !
we stayed at the los zocos resort and it was one of the main hotels there.

there are plenty of cash machines and loads of places to eat and drink !

we went on a few trips and we saw playa blanca and thought that costa teguise was much nicer beach

would definately recommend the trip to fueteventura as you get some time on the lovely white sand beach at corallejo ( think thats how u spell it ) !!!!!

if the reps try to sell you a trip to the market u can get a local bus thats loads cheaper and is no hassle!!

i would love to go back as i would of liked to do the timanfire mountain trip where you go on a coach up into the mountains and you get to have a bbq which is cooked over an open hole of a volcano as its so hot !

the water park is middle sized and has loads of slides etc but the water was very cold in december!!

hope you have a good time !! :fly

Thanks for the info Yvonny

Sounds like you had great time! Good to hear about cash points - thought it should be ok but didn't want to feel stranded!

There is a cash machine right outside the Los Zocos (as far as I remember) and there is bank in the shopping centre across the road.

Los Zocos was our first 2week foreign holiday 4 years ago and we had a fab time. Costa Teguise is lovely and at Los Zocos you are just across the road from the beach and about a 10 minute walk into the centre with loads of entertainment at night. Have a great trip anyone going to Los Zocos.

Is the information on screen on the ATM in English or Spanish? If not how do you know if you are going to be charged a fee for using that ATM?

Thanks in advance

you can request the language to be english, we have only ever had one problem with ATMs abroad and this happened the day after Tropical Storm Delta in PDC last November (2005) where we got a receipt but no money, the bank that the ATM was outside (Santander) would not have anything to do with it, we asked for 110E, and the transaction came out of our account, but HBSC are investigating.

as per previous comments if you have (or get) a Nationwide Flex account there are no fees / charges when withdrawing money from ATMs in Eurozone countries.

Pretty much all other UK Banks will charge for overseas ATM withdrawals - this is because the overseas Bank will charge your UK Bank for your transaction - the UK Bank get the money from you and pass it to the overseas Bank - simple eh ?!

In principle this is no different from the UK. If you bank with HSBC and withdraw using a Nat West ATM, NatWest will 'internally' charge HSBC for your transaction.

Suggest you ask your UK Bank for the fees that they charge, generally the charge used to be round 1.5% of the amount withdrawn with a £1.50 min charge. but that may have changed.

Thank you westmoormag for your comments. Pleased to hear that you can request info in English.

TFS1, Thank you also for yours, I will be using a Nationwide Flex Account and realise there are no charges for withdrawing cash with this card, but my question is: Does the ATM itself make a charge just as some in the UK do, ie the ones at motorway services! for being in a conveinent location.

Again many thanks and appreciate your responses - and any more!!!

Thanks

like many others I have used ATMs in various locations in all the Canary Islands over the past year and have never been charged at any of them.

These include ATMs that are miles away from a Bank, typically located in the side of a nondescript wall !, in front of restaurants, shops etc.

They all however have been badged with the yellow / blue signage with the '4b' type sign on them.

I've asked this question of my Nationwide branch in the past..........and it's ONLY rip off Britain that charges for withdrawing from convinience ATM's  As they're privately owned ATM's this is how they make their money

So no problem in The Canaries or anywhere else for that matter :)

Just returned from Fuerta and used a couple of different ATMs in Costa Calida.

Interesting findings, (well interesting to me!) having taken out €140 the ATM screen said the GBP cost was £ 99.10 and showed commision = 0% making the exchange rate around 1.41 - I was happy wth that.

Just checked my Nationwide flexaccount and the same transaction is shown as £95.76 making a rate of 1.4619 (zero commision as we know). This is better than a Visa transaction done on the same day which converted to a rate of 1.4557.

Great, Glad you had a positive experience - lets hope it continues along that way in the future TFS1,

yellow submarine,

If I had known that I was going to get that rate I would have taken more money out ! Have rechecked again this morning at other withdrawals from 8 and 11 Feb and the rate is still around 1.4550.

I've always found using a Nationwide card in ATMs is the best way to handle your money, I've always had a better rate than any other method.

Sadly when you tell people they think there's a catch, but there isn't!!!
