Hi I am new to the site and my wife and kids are off to Peurto del Carmen for a week tomorrow and she has a cash card not debit with the Cirrus and Link logos on back, I want to put some money into her account for the kids and want to know if there are ATM machines which she can use in the resort!

thanks

I think they'll all take them but check with Abbey before you go about any charges they make. The ATMs don't charge but most of the UK banks do. Halifax charge £1.50 per transaction. Nationwide don't charge anything, that's why I always take a Nationwide card.

Hi, we are going to Lanzarote Bay Hotel in a couple of weeks and were wondering where we will find an ATM machine.
Thanks.

There's a bank with ATM 2 minutes walk away on the main road near to where you walk down to the Playa Bastian Beach. Come out of the main entrance of the Lanzarote Bay, turn left, then left again (past Ma Bakers) and walk down to the main road, you'll see the bank and some shops and restaurants  There are plenty of cash machines all over the place in Costa Teguise, so if you get the hotel's free bus down to the Las Cucharas beach there's banks and cash machines there too, at the Las Cucharas shopping centre - handy when you're out and about 8)
Have a great holiday - we stayed at the Lanzarote Bay last August and had a fantastic time :D

Thanks cyberspacekadette.
Is Las Cachuras shopping centre very good, never been to Lanzarote before.
Kids are 8 and 10, 10 year old doesnt care much for kids clubs but are there many activities throughout the day. What is the difference in activities between the hotel and airtours kids club.
Thanks Gill.

The Las Cucharas centre is OK for little knick-knacks and souvenirs, there's some other shops at the other end of the Cucharas beach, under the Puerto Tahiche (near the Sunburnt Arms etc) and there's another shopping centre across the road from the 'square' near the Jabillo beach. It depends what you want to buy really - my teens got some nice 'surfer-dude' type clothes from the shops near the Sunburnt Arms and there's perfume shops, pottery, lace etc in the Cucharas and Jabillo centres.
A lot of people prefer to get a bus or taxi into Puerto del Carmen for shopping, we did it one day but there wasn't much there that you couldn't get in Costa Teguise, there was just more of it!
There's the Sunday market up in Teguise old town up in the hills, the reps do a coach trip for this, or there's a similar market in Costa Teguise on Friday evening - about 10-15 minutes stroll from the Lanzarote Bay.

As far as kids clubs go - well, my teens were too old for them but the younger kids in the hotel seemed to have a good time. The Airtours reps do a club for under 12's and they get the kids involved in some of the evening shows, which is a nice experience for them. The Hoteteur reps do various activities for all ages during the day - water polo and football for teens, keep fit etc. To be honest, my teenagers did get quite bored, the whole hotel is very well set up for the under 12's, but not really suitable for teens - they spent most of their time either playing on the pool tables or chatting to friends back home on the internet; but your kids aged 8 and 10 should have a good time

Hi ptb
Depending which end of the resort you are there are a couple of atms there. By the roundabout near Matagorda there are at least two. We go to Lanza a lot and have never had problems getting atm,s. Just remember your nationwide card for the best deals!

If you're using cash machines a lot with a UK card (Nationwide is best, no charges), always select NO when asked if you want to be charged in Euros and you will get a better exchange rate.

I just checked my statement and got up to 1.48 this way compared to 1.43 if they charge you in Euros.

Any time on any of these Lanzarote forums I see a question about exchange rates/travellers cheques/banks I always advise people to take a Nationwide debit card and put their spending money in their account and use the card in restaurants and ATMs like you would at home. This way you avoid commission and get a better exchange rate with the added bonus that you're not carrying a large amount of cash or travellers cheques.

This advice is usually met with a lot of scepticism.
